Anyone ever had any problems with Netflix? I’ve had one DVD lost in the mail (really!), but no other problems, and that isn’t Netflix’s fault. One of my friends claims Netflix takes forever to process his returns. For my account, the day after I mail a disc, they receive it, and ship another, so I have the next film 2 days after I drop it in the mail, provided I drop it off before the mail is picked up that day.
Mine have been incredibly slow to process lately. I have 2 at a time and typically get them watched Saturday or Sunday and drop them in the mailbox either Sunday evening or Monday morning as I head out to work. Used to be that they’d get them Tuesday and mail out the next ones that day. I’d usually get the new ones on Wednesday.
Lately, though. they’re not processing the returns until Thursday - at the holidays I tried to convince myself that it was because of the extra volume of mail in the postal system, but it’s continued (and the weather hasn’t been terrible either). Now I wonder if it’s because I usually return two in the same envelope. As a test, this week I used 2 envelopes and returned them seperately (although I dropped them in the mail at the same time). Both going to the same distribution center.
The only time I’ve had problems with Netflix was over the holidays. My normal 2-day turnaround time became a week. Other than that, it’s always run very smoothly for me, and I’ve never gotten any bad CDs, either. I usually return all 3 in one envelope, and have never had a problem with that. I think a lot of it is dependant on where you live.
Also, after you’ve been a regular customer for a while, I’ve heard your service can get slower. I’ve been waiting for it to happen to me but it hasn’t yet. Except for over Christmas. I ended up with no movies for New Year’s weekend, and I wasn’t very happy about it.
They lost the first three they sent to me, but had replacements out about two days later. Other than that, I haven’t had any complaints. Then again, I live in Northern VA and there’s a distribution center in Baltimore, so…
Only one problem, and maybe it was my fault. For some reason, I got the same DVD twice. I might have had it in my queue twice though.
All my DVDs have come from the processing center in Des Moines. I’m thinking since I’m in the boonies (the whole state is boonies), they’re not as busy. I’m still getting the DVDs within a day after they receive the one I returned, two days at most.
How do you guys clean the DVDs? When you have one that skips, how do you remedy that? I’ve been brushing them off with a soft cloth and that seems to work, but is that the right way to do it?
I’ve had good experiences with them so far. I’m probably on their heavy user/let’s delay this guy list, but I really haven’t noticed much of a delay. Really, all I’ve seen is that about half the time, discs get shipped the day after they get my return rather than that day.
I have the basic one at a time plan. I usually watch the DVD the same day I recieve it, then return it the next day. I should be averaging atleast 2 DVDs per week, but it’s more like 1 and sometimes 1.5 per week. One of their Return Centers is just a few miles from me, yet according to them it takes 4 days for them to recieve the returned DVDs. It wouldn’t take me 4 days to walk there.
my local return center is 3 blocks away from my house. In order to get a return with in 4 days. I have to drive almost as far as the blockbuster in town.
I cancelled Netflix because I had too many problems. Some dvds took over a week to arrive. I had several damaged disks too, and despite their claims to send a replacement I never received one, ever.
I must be lucky with NJ. We have a Distribution center nearby and several other not too far. Most of the time it takes 1 day for a DVD to get to them and it takes them 1 day to get it back to us. Most of the time my notice of a receipt is followed up with a shipping notice the same day.
My distribution center is in the same county that I live in. they have been very fast for the past 15 months or so.
Over 15 Months I have averaged about 5 discs a week receiving/sending. In that time :
They lost 3 that I returned but never gave me a second’s crap about it and took my word for it.
They sent 3 cracked and unplayable disks
once they immediately sent an obviously copied disk as a replacement that was unplayable. Then they waited about a week and sent me a new one.
I wish the selection was better. That is it for me on complaints - I was surprised they took my word esp. since two disks were the BBC the Office (different seasons) w/i a week. Not sure I wouldn’t have questioned me
As far as the losing discs thing goes, they say that they will cancel your account if you lose what they consider to be an excessive number of discs. How they determine that, I’m not sure.
I quit it because it was taking up to a week. I know it was likely a problem from the USPS because a coworker who lives accross the river would get his in 2 days always. I would get some damaged one, and I found that often it was the newest releases that were damaged.
Hmm…I’ve never had a problem with Netflix, and my history’s going on two years now, in two states. I’ve only received one DVD that was unplayable, and they sent another out right away. As far as turnaround goes, I haven’t noticed any lagging or delay. Some DVD’s ship out sooner than others, but there hasn’t been anything approaching a week’s delay.
I haven’t had any problems yet, but I’m just coming off the 2-week free trial period. I have had an almost 100% 2-day turnaround so far–one day for Netflix to get them back and one day for me to get the next, only one exception that took 2 days for me to receive after it was sent.
Er…what does it signify that I have 347 discs in my queue already (not counting the discs already watched or the “unknown release date” discs in the Saved queue)?
In the other thread I mentioned that the only disk I have “lost” was one I put in with another disk–and Netflix managed to receive that one. They didn’t give me a real bad time about it and that happened more than a year ago.
I would really prefer Blockbuster, as in addition to the mail-in ones you get two free rentals from the store (for emergencies!). However, during my trial the Blockbuster website drove me crazy with its slowness and the impossibility of just browsing, and when I went into the store the selection was crap–all the good stuff, gone.
AuntiePam, I used Windex for the skips. Worked very well.
I signed up for a free trial with blockbuster online. So far, it has been mixed. They’ve been both quick and slow with receiving and sending me out my next disc. The in free store rentals are nice…and now they’ve offered me a new deal. One free weekly in store rental. Now, about $4.29 per rental (in store) I’m basically paying for the $17.99 monthly fee right there and that included the 3 DVD mail program. I’m going to keep both Netflix and Blockbuster for just a little while longer and see how this works out.
