So I move into a new condo. One of the things I have to do is get all the utilities switched to my name. So I get the cable, phone and gas done without a problem. No hassle at all, quick and simple.
Then there is Nevada Power. I call Nevada Power and they say they are going to come out and do whatever it is they need to do so that the power is in my name. Note, the power is already on, it just needs to go into my name.
On Monday I get a call from the owner of the condo. The power ws not switched to my name. He recieved the bill. I explained they were supposed to switch it over. He said that he talked to them and they said that they could not get in because they did not have the GATE CODE. He explained to them that there is no GATE CODE, you either have to call the condo owner from the front gate box or use an electronic gate key. Nevada Power has a gate key. He did manage to get them to drop the whole bill for the month. According to him it took a lot of yelling.
So yesterday I call Nevada Power to do whatever it is they need to do to put the power in my name. It is at this point that the insanity begins.
I called and spoke with one of the reps. I explain the situation. He said they will get someone out here to get whatever they need to do done. Except that they need the GATE CODE. I explain that there is no gate code, they have a key. He said that they cannot do anything without the gate code. I say “Okay, just have them call me and I’ll open the gate.” Nope, this won’t work, they have to have a gate code. This goes on for 5 minutes and I decide that he isn’t going to be able to do anything besides babble on about a gate code. So I asked to speak to a manager.
It just gets worse.
I get ‘Millie’, a manager on the line. I explain the situation and the first thing she said is, “We cannot do anything without a gate code.” Here we go again. I explain that there is no GATE CODE and that they have a gate key to get in. She denies this. Ok, so I asked her to have the tech call me so I can let them in. She said that this is impossible, they don’t have phones. Somewhat disbelieving I ask “They don’t have cellphones or radios?” She says no, they don’t have phones and starts going on an 8 minute rant asking if I knew how much money it would cost to equip the techs with phones(I timed the rant, BTW). I said yes, I do know, I did corprate accounts with T-Mobile but that is not the point. I just need the power put in my name. She, once again, says they cannot do it without a gate code. By this time I am starting to get really annoyed but I am controlling it really well. I ask her “Well, if they do not have gate keys how do the meters get checked?” She responds that they ESTIMATE the bills. Every month. For over 300 houses.
I figure out at this point that this lady a) won’t be able to do anything to resolve the situation and b) is totally wacked after listening to her cell phone rant. So I asked to speak with her manager.
Now the it gets really amazing.
She told me that her manager is in a meeting. I said “OK just let me speak to another manager, I’ll hold.” At this point she starts yelling “ALL OF MY MANAGERS ARE IN A MEETING! You want to HOLD? OK! I’LL PUT YOU ON HOLD! YOU’LL BE ON HOLD FOREVER! DO YOU WANT TO BE ON HOLD FOREVER?”
By this time I was writing down what she said. That is an exact quote. I am not joking.
At this point I asked for her name and number. She screamed it at me and I disconnected the call.
I did manage to speak with another manager who, after 15 minutes, promised to make sure everything was taken care of. She said she would check to make sure everything is completed. She wasn’t all that helpful but she did at least she did not scream.
