Having said that, I rather like the new single. I’d die to hear Layne Staley singing the lead instead of the new guy. I guess he sounds kind of like Layne, but that only draws attention to him “not” being Layne.
I have to give credit to Jerry and the rest of the guys. It’s their band, too, and there is no reason that they should not continue without Layne. It’s been 14 years since they had an album. It is the whole band aside from Layne, which makes me much more open to them, as well.
Hey, I think the single is better than Jerry’s solo albums, which I had high expectations for.
I miss Layne Staley, but I’m willing to give the new album a listen.
Sounds pretty good - the new singer (the guy from Days of the New, right?) has the right kind of nasal bray to his vocal tone - yes, like Staley - that you need for it to sound AIC. I like the song, but it is long and not as hooky as I’d like - stuff like Down in a Hole, Man in a Box, etc. have a solid melodic hook for the chorus that pulls me into the heaviness - this song has one, but it’s not great…
cool! I’m at the library, but I’ll check it out at home. Glad that the guys are moving forward after Layne’s passing. Hope there’s harmonies with Jerry and the new guy. One of the most underappreciated aspects of AIC was the way that those two could actually, you know, sing.
