New Anne Frank ( 2001 ) movie

Anne Frank:Whole Story 2001 I highly recommend this version.
The story shows Anne before they went into hiding, and unlike the older version (1959 with Millie Perkins), follows them through to Birkenau and Belsen, Margot’s death and Miep finding the Diary. The movie was more accurate then I what I’m used to seeing in movies, and the acting is powerful.

Usually I’m a critic  when it comes to movies but I can’t say enough about this one-which I’ve already seen 3 times. Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List) is Otto; I didn’t recognize the others but they look similiar to the people they play. Their acting is so much that I forget I’m even watching a film. I can’t believe that I did not hear of this movie until just a month ago.

Two thumbs up!

I saw that recently and agree completely. Following the family (and other tenants of the attic) til the horrible end (and Anne’s immortality) gave it powerful new dimensions. How sad that the only survivor was Otto when you know he’d have gladly given his life for either of the girls or his wife. I understand he found some comfort in his second wife and her family.

I also enjoyed the movie I SHOT ANDY WARHOL in which the “I”, Valerie Solanas, was portrayed by Lili Taylor who played Miep Gies in this. Incredible range: from wildly psychotic trisexual prostitute to thoroughly selfless heroine who risked all for those she loved.

Unless she has died very recently, the real Miep Gies is still alive, well and living in Amsterdam. She is one of those humans who deserves to be worshipped, though I understand she’s very meek and shuns attention (which ironically only makes her more godlike).

I haven’t seen I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, heard of it. I will check it out though.

I think Miep is still alive today. In her book she said that they (she and her husband) were hiding another person in their own home. They never told the Franks/van pels so as not to worry them. Money was extremely tight, she had to really search for food (which sometimes made them sick it was so old), going far out of town on her bike some days. She’s (and the other helpers) definately a person to look up to.

I saw Miep speak a few years ago in LA. I don’t remember much of what she said, to be honest, but I was very impressed to be in the same room with her. I’m assuming she’s still alive because I’m also assuming that her death would be fairly major news.

She seemed like a really sweet lady. It’s amazing what people will do, given the right circumstances.
