I am so excited! The Giants are playing their first (pre-season) game ever at Pac Bell Park! I have the game on the TV, and the park is just beautiful. Annoying advertisements, but beautiful nonetheless. It’s tiny, home runs to right land in the water, the view is great, and it’s not Candlestick! Yay!
The tickets went on sale maybe a month ago. It was at 10:00am, so my wife had the phone in hand and I was at the web site at 9:55am, dialing and typing fingers poised.
All of the good seats for all of the games for the entire season were sold out before the gates opened! All of the Friday and Saturday games were completely sold out (for a block of 4 seats) before the gates opened! The only seats we could get were these upper level seats for a Thursday game.
Harsh!
Apparently, they gave season ticket holders first rights to buy not only their own seats, but additional ones as well. Everything was gone before it opened for us common folk.
Anyway, we’ll be there with popcorn and beer. Hope we can see the field.
Yeah, but there’s that name.
Am I, a non-fan, the only one who’s bugged by sports places being named for a corporation?

We have Coors Field (for the Colorado Rockies), but that somehow works. PacBell park just sounds stupid.
NO! I am sure millions share your feelings. I sure do. The new Detroit Tiger’s stadium is named Commerica Park, after Commerica Bank in MI. I guess it’s not too bad. (Although I don’t know what is wrong with calling it “Tiger Stadium” either) I think it rolls off the tongue a little better than Pacific-Bell Park.

Well just think, it could be called Fox Jr. Stadium, Or Domino’s Pizza Park, how about Pepperoni Stadium?

Is it any worse than naming a park after the team’s owner (i.e., Ebbets Field, Wrigley Field)?

Did anyone see Barry hit one into the Bay tonight! That new park kicks ass!

I saw it! My whole family started cheering, in our living room. Even my bratty teenaged sister was happy. Man, I can’t wait to go to a game (which hopefully will happen within the next ten years).
As for the name…yeah, it sucks, but it’s better than 3Com. And anything is better than Candlestick - not like the Giants would stay there, and I’d call it pretty much anything to keep them from leaving. Besides, Pac Bell paid a bundle to build the park, I don’t begrudge them naming it after themselves. It’s no worse than Ted Turner Stadium. THAT makes me want to puke.
Hey, I like Candlestick! Well, I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I didn’t mind the gale-like winds.
I have tickets to two Giants games this season. And my buddy has PSL’s on the 3rd base line! Yes, I better start kissing his ass to take me to all the games…

HA! At least you don’t have to go to PSINet Stadium. Yup, we get to go to Piss-net Stadium here in B’more. Whoopie!
Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.
I pray to god we are never speaking of our “new” stadium. Can’t improve on perfection.
