More recently an Embraer Phenom 100 (light jet) delivery flew Florida, Canada, Iceland, Scotland, Holland, Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia
Then they got in trouble for landing in Broome and refueling in Alice Springs instead of going into quarantine at Darwin. I didn’t hear why they changed their flight plan – the paper just quoted the pilot as saying they didn’t comply with quarantine requirements because they diverted and were tired.
Sounds about right. You have to enter via a recognised first port of call (boating speak, I used to deal with international yachts arriving into Australia, same concept though). Broome is an international airport and therefore fine as a first port of call, but it is not used regularly so it doesn’t have international customs / quarantine services on a daily basis. An unanticipated flight arriving would have to sit there with crew on board until the appropriate folk could get out and meet them. I’m guessing that didn’t happen. Australia takes those types of breaches quite seriously.
Or was it because they broke the required COVID-19 quarantine? I would guess they needed to do 14 days in one of the capital city COVID hotels. So either Perth or Darwin. Appearing unexpectedly in The Alice would not have pleased a lot of people. Not even the right state.
I talked to my dad on the phone tonight. According to him, the new planes he picked up were flown by Avro pilots first. He said there were about 5 hours on the meter before he he got them.
Both. What they did pissed of the Federal Government, and the Western Australian state government, and the Northern Territory government. They probably could have got away with an unplanned landing in Broome, if they’d followed protocol, and that probably would have sent them on to Darwin, which was probably not where they wanted to go, rather than Alice Springs and on to quarantine in Sydney.
Even if what they did was reasonable, given the conditions and the range of the plane they were flying, there’s a reasonable suspicion that they were self-entitled assholes, which won’t have endeared them to any government agency.
I’d been thinking it was before COVID, but yes that would piss the government off even more.
