Originally I was going to put this in MPSIMS, but figured it was bound to turn into a debate. I just came across an article on Featherless Chickens and found it pretty cool. I think it’s absurd enough that it would be a pretty cool pet, even though I hate chickens. A little leather jacket on one would make for the ultimate pet for punk rockers. I also found the idea that it would be traumatic to the chickens humorous. Are the other chickens going to tease them? Any thoughts?
Small correction - it was developed not at the “Rehovot Institute”, but rather at the Weitzman Institute in Rehovot, one of the world’s leading biotech research facilities.
Interestingly, it’s the same place that invented the seedless watermellon.
I’m sorry, but why would I be horrified at the thought of cheaper chicken? So the thing has no feathers, unlike the “natural” chicken. I can’t remember the time I needed the feathers off a chicken anyway. And if it knocks the price down a few cents per pound, I’m all for it!!
So, in short, yea genetics, boo FOTE/PETA/whoever. Up with naked chickens, down with silly people.
[sub]And dare I suggest Naked Chicken == great band name?[/sub]
Chicken Slugs… Slickens? Chugs? I’m all for that but bite your tongues on the skinless bit. Chicken without skin is like beer without alcohol, chili peppers without heat, or skim milk… pointless. Maybe a Sharpei chicken to get more skin? A naked, doubleskinned, three legged chicken would be a wonderful thing.
(Still chuckling at the thought of that chicken in a spiked collar)
I seem to remember that something like this was done with turkeys a while ago (although it was a case of seizing upon a chance mutation in that case, not GM), but they kept dying of pneumonia or something.
