strong text I swear it’s now gotten to the point where I refuse to reply to emails and hang up on phoners using the reprehensible phrase “reach out to” ~ hey, I’ll try anything once but when I’ve tried reaching anyone this way or they to me, the efforts invariably fail miserably!
Is there somewhere we can arrange to ban this and similarly offensive verbiage from the English Language? ~Zen)
There’s countless annoying cliches and trendy catch-all phrases out there and it gets worse daily. I have a problem with never ending initialisms. Like everyone is supposed to know what ‘XYZ’ means. I find it particularly amusing that some companies are so full of themselves they believe everyone will know who they are when they shorten their name to initials. I no longer even acknowledge. If a person thinks saying 3 initials is so much quicker than saying 3 words good for them, but don’t expect me to waste time decoding whatever it is they’re talking about. grrr!
Moving on. Don’t expect this to help, but you could give it a shot:
If the OP is serious about this stuff, here’s a thread that’s been running for over two years and nearly 1500 posts on the same topic. Surely you’ll find plenty there to kvetch (legitimately) about:
I can’t help but find it funny that as the OP of the linked thread, I worked in healthcare IT for 10 years.
Buzzword absurdity is definitely a thing in healthcare. It’s almost like there’s a certain amount of cachet associated with what degree of buzzwords, impenetrable acronyms, and things referred to by their initials your particular part of the company uses.
We had a CEO who used to tell us the latest buzzwords every month that he had to use to be taken seriously. He was a cool guy, however, and understood the stupidity of the situation.
