Well, as I have only visited Canada once, and that was over fifteen years ago, I was wondering if you could indulge this ignorant Texan … is there a video clip or something that explains this?
Someone HAS to get me one of these-- because I’m stranded in the U.S. where no one wears poppies, and ‘Poppy’ was what we called my grandfather.
Email me your address, Barbarian. I will get one from one of my Canadian trainees next week and mail it to you.
Damnit, I went to Tim’s yesterday for a large double-double and a canadian maple, and all I got was three stinkin’ normal quarters.
Damn them.
Found em online on ebay all right… For anywhere from $1.80 to $2.99 each plus overinflated postage!
The Royal Canadian Mint is selling them for $14.99 for a mint uncirculated roll, plus $12.99 shipping! (And they’re out of stock?!)
Methinks it’s time to call the relatives and beg that they send me one…
On the mint site they also have a silver dollar with red maple leaves on it, so I guess they’ve done this before, just never put them into circulation…
Damn, this patriotism is gonna get expensive…
I’m guessing that those of us in portions of the U.S. fortunate enough to have Tim Hortons are not going to find these coins there. No fair.
Mom’s getting me some. Like it’s a hardship to go to Tim’s. Get me your address, and I’ll mail you one once I’ve received them. (If she sends a few).
I went to Tim’s yesterday, and they didn’t give me one. Damn. Maybe on Monday they’ll have more.
Here in Michigan, we get Canadian coins in our change all the time. If I get one, I’ll toss it into an envelope and mail it up to you
Thanks for sharing with us. I collect coins and hadn’t heard of this - I just went out and ordered two rolls.
As to the color wearing off…I was listening to Windsor radio the other day and they mentioned that there may be problems with a couple batches of the coins. They said the color on those batches may wear off fairly quickly, but other batches will be fine.
Color, bah. Call me back when they do a special quarter for each of the 10 provinces.
How 'bout 1992?
Not just the provinces, but the two territories (at the time) as well.
SUH-WEET! And to think I thought the US’s 50 State quarters was an original idea…
Off to E-Bay for me!
Rrrrrrrrrrrroll up the rrrrrrrim to win!
(Take that, French immersion!)
I must’ve gotten one of the defective quarters (yes, from Tim Horton’s) yesterday; the colour was already faded and lightly scratched. Plus, the poppy looks like someone drew it on with a marker.
It’s still cool though.
I think this sounds cool. As it happened one very minor part of my dream last night had US nickels with some color on them. I was at a store and tried to get both versions of the Ohio nickel. One looked a lot like the poppy quarter, the other was light blue and white, I think.
Interesting, but… (from the website linked in the OP)
Grrrr…
I’ll mail one to the first five people who email me for one. Hell, $0.25 and some postage? Piece o’ cake. Let me know who wants one.
