I have a 2008 Toyota Solara that hesitates when I give it the gas. It has 1500 miles on it and has done this since day 1.
Does this require attention by the dealer, or is this just a consequence of the drivetrain design?

Is it an automatic?
My '06 Charger does this, and I suspect it’s because of the torque converter. If I punch it, I hear the engine rev, and -then- it starts moving. It reminds me of Wile E. Coyote. Pain in the ass when I need power -NOW-.
Owner/Driver of 2007 Solara Convertible with v6 and 5-speed auto-stick.
It’s a ‘driving characteristic’ and it SUCKS. It is just how the engine/tranny combo work together.
It is at its worst when you try to drive with ‘a light foot’. It gets better as you drive aggressively, but never seems to go away. I’ve tried other cars upon complaining and they were similar.
Shit.
Yeah, mine’s a convertible with a V6 and “auto-stick” (worst of both worlds). If I use it in stick mode and keep the revs up then it’s not bad but in standard auto I punch it and nothing happens for a second. I have to give it a little extra gas early in anticipation of when I really need it.
I am also not crazy about the sloppy suspension, but I bought it to have a convertible that would comfortably seat 4. When the kids are grown I’m going to by a BMW Z4.
Or a BMW K1200 LT
If it’s an 08, take it back to the dealer. With modern vehicles there’s no guessing what might be wrong. They’ll fix it up. Unless it just has a small motor.
