new car ordering

I’m looking to buy a car this summer. I have my eye on a new Wrangler, and I know the style, color, and options I want. But if I’m getting a new car, I want to get darn near exactly what I want, and there doesn’t appear to be a dealership anywhere in Florida that has the 2005 I want. The dealers are telling me that I’ll have to either preorder a 2006 and wait several months for it, or else compromise on my options.

I know they can do transfers, but they don’t seem to be able/willing to look outside the state. At this point it’s looking like I either wait, or else start searching dealerships all over the country.

Anyone have knowledge or suggestions?

Have you tried punching what you want into carsdirect.com and working with their salesperson?

I bought my car through them, and was pretty happy with the experience. They can check inventory at a bunch of dealers…

AFAICT, “they” don’t have salespeople: they’re sending me to the dealers.

When I bought from them, a guy contacted me, discussed my order, found a car that matched what I was looking for, and then sent me to the dealer to fill out the final paperwork. The guy who contacted me is what I ment by “salesperson.”

Hmph. Maybe they’ve changed or something. Now when I type in the make and model, it just gives me local dealers. I called their 1-800, and they said thay can only do the same search that the dealers do.
