I’ll tell you what. If 7 newbies post to this thread with interest in starting a game, and none of the traditional GMs (JC, Abe Babe, Weirddave) feel up to the task, I’ll give GMing a shot.

Well, if I’m left calling the shots, I’d want to wait and see how many rookies we had. I’ve only played 2 games to completion and am in the middle of my 3rd and 4th. I’m clearly not a seasoned veteran, but I think you’d agree that the learning curve is pretty damn fast. I felt much much more comfortable and capable after my first outing.
First dibs would go to rookies, and after that it’d be a sliding scale based on experience. Players who’ve had a couple games experience would be asked to play countries they hadn’t played before.
I’m a newbie at Diolomacy, (got it for Christmas) so I’d love to be in this game.
Oh, for whoever happens to GM this, my order is:

I was thinking the same thing Omni was. I’ve been thinking I should take my turn at the wheel, and a beginners’ game would be the perfect chance. If you need to bow out for whatever reason, Omni, I’d be willing to be the second-string GM.
I’m in about the same boat as you all in terms of experience. I’ve played 3 games start to finish, I’m wrapping another right now, and my WM game and this one have just started. So that’s 6 total. That’s actually way more than I thought.
Oh, and Soup_du_jour… I feel confident that you’ll get your first choice of Powers.

Deeply interested in playing, but I don’t have a board at home (well, actually I do have a board, but no pieces. Long story.). Are these PBEM games centered around a virtual board like the games I’ve seen here?

JC, would you be willing to donate a bit of your bandwidth to a webpage for this newbie experiment? I’ve got mad HTML skillz, and if I’m GMing this puppy I would have no trouble setting up and maintaining a page for it. I also may take you up on that advisor role as well.
