new dog for us!

Tomorrow we will drive to Houston to pick up Georgie,a 5 month old Boston Terrier.

Our dog, Dongle, also a Boston terrier, has seemed lonely. he is about 1.5 years old.

any suggestions on introducing them?
He is, BTW, a very friendly dog and loves other dogs.

“Hello my name is…” name tags are usually good for this type of thing.

Congrats, BNB on the newest addition to your family. I have not personally had to introduce a new animal into my home but I have heard that you should isolate the newbie in a room of his own with the door closed for a few days. Your existing dog will be able to smell the newbie through the door and begin to accept it. When introductions are made, much fuss should be made toward your existing dog so that he still knows his “place” in the pack. Good Luck and keep us posted!

There should not be too many problems since one is large enough to be the dominant dog without much recourse to enforcement.

I think you will get a lot of silly charging around and excitement and your present dog will do a lot of looking first at you then at the pup in a quizzical sort of way.

I would not take your dog over to the new ones residence, and make sure you give the pup somewhere to retreat if he feels anxious.

Slight hijack:

I have this plan that the next time I purchase a new dog, I get some of his fur before hand, steep it in water, and mist the water around the house so it smells familiar. I think it might help with housebreaking.

Georgie and Dongle are getting along just fine.

I have never seen him look so happy.

Thank goodness both are fixed. Apparently, he has taken quite a shine to her.

see, I was under the impression that he would not want to have sex with her, because he is neutured.

HAHA! I was most wrong about that!

We are quite amused by the fact that he hasn’t figured it out quite right, though.

we are going on day 4 and he has tried everywhere, except one place: he has tried her head. her side. her leg. the air.(this one is the most popular).

she sits there, ignoring him.

hmmmmmm. anyone out there with this experince?

Actually, it’s probably not so much about sex as it is dominant behavior. He’s just trying to show who’s boss, that’s all. In doggie world, you’re allowed to hump anyone who’s below you in the pack. Which is why it’s not even remotely funny when dogs starts humping people’s legs and such.

My dog does this all the time to my bitch. It is funny to watch as its obvious he hasnt got a clue where it goes. And it is sexual as he only does it when she is in season (hes been fixed but not her. We’ll do her after she gets over the litter she’s just had.)

Both our dogs are fixed females, but Pixel, the dalmatian, still occasionally mounts the border collie (who sits there looking bored) tho we’ve not figured out if there’s a trigger to this behavior. I was wondering if Pix was experimenting with an alternate lifestyle, but someone explained the “top dog” concept to me. I think I’m the dominant one in the pack, tho, since they both run to me at the first rumble of thunder.

Congrats on your new pup!

day 9.

He still hasnt figured it out.
She has.

Valkyrie and I are just jealous you have two BTs. We want some ourselves!

they are the best dogs ever!

they are small and portable, yet rough and rugged to play with, like big dogs.

they have loads of personality!

we got Georgie at a rescue and if you ever want to get some, I highly recommend them!

My mom and dad had a Boston Terrier, Maggie, who was so ugly she was cute  I agree with you on all counts, BNB. They’re terrific!
