Because Tennant specifically told Rose and clone-Tennant on the beach at Bad Wolf Bay that TARDISes were grown, and that they could grow their own.
lol the TARDIS thinks Rory’s the good looking one
Actually, the “Pull to Open” refers to the little door that houses the phone. Which you do pull.
Either way, though, you’d never make something the size of a phone booth/police box with inward-opening doors. No room.
-Joe
Really? I don’t remember that. You may be right.
Did you ever watch the Sylvester McCoy years? Besides the bad writing of the episodes I didn’t like that his version of the doctor was never really in any danger because he pretty much gave up all pretense of being anything other than brilliant and having all the answers. He had beaten all of his foes before, and he knew damn well he would beat them again.
That’s right, and on a real Mackenzie Trench police box (which the Tardis is supposed to be imitating), only the right-hand side opened as a door anyway.
But then the real ones were made of concrete, not wood, and the roof was different (and don’t even mention the windows) – and why is she a police box all the time anyway?
I’m not sure Missy Tardis is in much of position to criticise other people on the “attention to detail” front. ![]()
Actually, it’s because the TARDIS’s chameleon circuit is broken. The Master’s TARDIS tended to have a working one, making it harder for our hero to find it.
But I’m not a nerd.
-Joe
He even gave them a bit of TARDIS to grow.
The Doctor’s always assumed the chameleon circuit was broken, but he never seems to have been able to find the fault, and the one time he got it to do anything different, it just came up with two or three random and inappropriate shapes before reverting to a police box. Besides which, the Tardis quite clearly has changed shape several times over the years — it’s just that each time it’s been into a slightly different variation on a police box.
It seems pretty clear to me that the Tardis looks like a police box because that’s the way she likes it.
This made me happy.
Poor Rory, Amy gets all the in-show love and cool bits.
I really don’t remember that, and I just re-watched “Journey’s End” this week. It was in that episode, right? Either that or the cold medicine has really been making me loopy.
From a deleted scene, series 5
*
"Every time the TARDIS materializes in a new location in the first nanosecond of landing it analyses its surroundings, calculates a 12 dimensional data map of everything within a 1,000 mile radius and determines which outer shell would blend in best with the environment.
And then it disguises itself as a police telephone box from 1963."*
Yep, “Sexy likes it that way” would explain it…
I thought it was in a deleted scene.
Is that bit considered canon, though? I know the scene was filmed - it’s an extra on the DVD box set - but it was never actually aired, right?
Switching gears - I didn’t get the impression that the Doctor was bragging when he said, “Fear me. I killed all of them.” He just looked so sad when he said it, and kind of resigned, like, “Bitch, please. I’ve destroyed whole worlds and come back from the end of the universe, and now there’s you, and you’re just not going to be happy until I kick your ass too, are you? Fine. Jerk.”
I like that better than Nine’s explanation that he landed in 1963 and the chameleon circuit broke and he just never bothered to fix it.
Would that possibly have been from one of Douglas Adams scripts? It’s a very close paraphrase of his descriptions of the Nutri-matic Drinks Dispenser.
Well that’s odd. I’ve never seen the DVDs - just the original broadcasts. How could I know that if it hadn’t aired?
Er… same way some people without cable or other means to get BBC America nonetheless seem to know the content of the latest episodes within a day of them being aired?
For the record, I just checked my torrent file of Journey’s End, and watched the Bad Wolf Bay scene. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of growing a TARDIS.
It seems to have been a Rip of the BBC Airing.
