New Futurama tonight.

Actually, gnovice provides a really helpful explanation here. Scroll down a bit.

I loved how the microscopic Benders were directly manipulating molecules to convert water into alcohol.

Guess I’m in the minority, but count me as liking the first episode better. Anything chauvinistic said by Zapp Brannigan gives me more lines to use with the missus. “Why hello from the neck down!” Been using the term “decumbent urinator” since as well.

Also, I now have an image burned into my brain of a female version of the Professor wearing nipple tassels. Been trying to find a hi-res version to use as a desktop background.

So did I. It was so cute!

NanoBender: I’m 40 percent carbon! [plink plink]

“Neutopia”; meh, rather underwhelming episode, felt rushed, and the genderswap had no real payoff, and there was no Scruffy continuity in the next episode, Benderama, they didn’t even address how he regained his original male form, as he missed getting reset by the Feldspar Kid

Benderama; I loved this episode, after all, not only did it feature Bender, it featured a lot of Benders, and we all know that Bender is great!, lots of great gags in this one, especially with the BenderGoo Benders and the Nanobenders manipulating the molecular structure of Carbon and Oxygen atoms to create alcohol

Drunk Morbo; That’s right, Linda, water is no…now booooze, and everyone is titty much protally fitshaced
Drunk Linda; Turning to spoooorts, the Inny Five hunnerd was today! <solemn>…there were nooo survivors…

I think these episodes were supposed to be the second half of last season, so they feel like mid-season episodes.

Surprised nobody commented yet on last night’s episode; I thought it was a decent return to form after the middling prior two. “Ghost Bender” was a silly gimmick, but had some good laughs in there. Fry casually forgetting his own name and his last-moment realization that Bender was haunting him were pretty great.

I also love that Futurama routinely uses technology as a hand-waving way to deal with the supernatural without being, well, supernatural. I mean, it was even called out IN the episode – ghosts don’t exist, but ROBOT GHOSTS?!

I hereby declare this Saturday to be “Fry Day.”

I forgot to set my DVR to record an extra minute after the supposed end time of Futurama, since it’s one of those shows that is apparently a bit out of sync with the clock and I keep missing the last lines of the show.

What!?! I haven’t seen the episode yet, but ghosts surely do exist! They can even marry horses!

My favorite line of the episode.

I think the latest episode was a bit of a return to form. Fry hanging up his hat and beard got me as well, although I can’t exactly explain why.

I think this season is suffering from something…but I don’t know a word for it.

The episodes seem very episodic. They all seem like the plot is forced in each show to a point where it takes me out of the show because I can call the plot before it even happens. The past seasons seemed like they were more seamless in the introductions to the plots. Even when the professor would come on with a “(adjective) news everyone!” it seemed more organic than the last 3 episodes have been

I liked “Neutopia” better, too; I thought the rock alien with his arbitrary tests was great and I thought there were a lot of good quips. “Benderama” was maybe a higher concept idea, but I just didn’t think it was that funny.

What was the last line in the latest episode? My DVR always cuts off the ends of programs.

(Remember when you could set your VCR to record an extra minute?)

Last Exchange:

B: I’m back baby!
F: You’re back from the dead?!
B: I’m back from lots of stuff.
F: (whilst hugging) Bender, I’ve missed you so much!
F: (stops hugging) Wait, did you haunt me? (Bender and Fry stare at each other)

Thanks.

Check your DVR instructions: My DVR (which I got from DirecTV) allows me to adjust the record start and stop times for both individual and series recording by various increments. During March Madness when the local network stations shift all the prime time shows to start at 2am so they can show the basketball games live I’ve learned to set those shows to record an extra 15-30 minutes because they almost always run late.

No idea where the manual is. I checked DVR Setup yesterday, and there was no adjustment. I’ve emailed Comcast for assistance.

You can set start and stop times in the setup for the original program. Go to the Futurama listing in your onscreen guide. Select the Record icon, then select Modify Recording Settings (for the series recording), then View All Settings. You will have two settings, one for set start time and one for select finish time. They can be adjusted from starting the recording 15 minutes early to finishing 15 minutes late. Adjust your end time then select Record With These Settings.
