There’s yet another theory about male homosexuality in New Scientist today.
Of course it may only explain 7% of cases of male homosexuality (and where are the lesbian studies, do dads make their daughters gay?).
Interesting though, I kinda fit the pattern. I’m the youngest male in my family, and Mom, well let’s just say when she was younger I don’t think her dance card was ever empty, and my sister, I don’t think she ever spent a night at home alone unless she wanted to, she’s basically a baby factory, and I don’t think she’s spent a single day without a boyfriend/husband since she was 16.
So all you women out there with gay younger brothers, are you a slu…, er, hyperheterosexual?
Hmm… My mom has 3 kids, 17 yo male (me), 13 yo son, 11 yo daughter. Oldest son is gay, but masculine, 13 yo is one of the most effeminate people I’ve ever met, hasn’t yet told us that he prefers the company of guys. (Honestly, I suspect that he does. My mom blames it on me never being a strong male influence on him. Hello? He has a father!), and my sister doesn’t seem too sexually promiscuous. (Cute as a button, though.) So, if my brother turns out to be gay, does that mean my mom needs to have 2.4 more kids? She’s already had a hysterectomy. Hmm.

My mom had had 5 kids. I have an older, queer brother. My sister, just a little younger than “him” is kind of a slut, more “trashy” than slut, though, is older than me. Not that I ever saw her riding bolognia pony (doesn’t rhyme when you type it!), but her series of “boyfriends” always seemed a little dubious.
And I’m straight. But like women in leather. With whips and stuff. (Anybody remember my post about women in Nazi costumes? Yeah, thats the stuff!)
How does this fit in the study?

Well, since the study doesn’t explain the majority of male homosexuals, I’m not going to explain to anyone why they don’t fit the study. Y’all will have to find your own study.
Is the trait of being attracted to men really the same thing as a “fecundity gene”? My mum was extremely virtuous (no, really) but still managed six children.

I think you’ve put your finger on it here. In spite of what Simon LeVay said, the factor deals with fertility – women who carry the gene are more likely to have more children.
This is interesting when you take the"gay uncle" theory into consideration – that having a non-reproducing male around to help with the children is an evolutionary plus. In this case, there would be more children to look after.
I agree. I think it’s also beneficial for a reproducing, non-related male to bond with a non-reproducing male, since he can help support you while not having to worry about him impregnating your women.
