Two days ago I got the following spam, which invites me to subscribe to a service that can send spam without using email. My first question is, is there any place I can complain to and my second is what is going on here? I am behind a firewall, so I suspect this cannot get to me.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND
MILLIONS OF MESSAGES PER MONTH
TO AN AUDIENCE OF 178 MILLION
WITHOUT USING EMAIL?!?
What if I told you that you can :
Send up to a million messages a day WITHOUT using email
No need to extract or buy one address for a total population of 25
million potential recipients
Totally hidden identity including IP
No spam or UCE related problems, no cancellation of your account or
smtp server
Your target audience are all consumers, normal everyday surfers NOT
sellers.
Costs you just $59 one time
7. Unlike bulk email programs, GhostMessage is sophisticated yet very
easy to use.
Just key in your messsage and click send. That’s it !!
NOTHING is simpler, more effective, cheaper or SAFER. If you only make 10
sales per week, it is really worth it, don’t you think?

Probably uses Messenger spam. It’s a new type that uses security holes in Windows (gee, who could imagine that?)
You can protect yourself in one of two ways:
If you’re using XP, turn off the Messenger service (this is not Microsoft Instant Messenger). You’ll find it in the control panel under “Services.”
Install and run either a firewall (http://www.zonealarm.com ) or a pop-up stopper (I like Free Surfer).
