New iPad mini out of wifi range - how to extend it?

I received an iPad Mini for Father’s Day and I notice that it has problems with dropping the WiFi connection when I am in my bedroom. This wasn’t an issue with my macbook or my iPhone, but the signal does have to pass through several walls, so I will concede that there is a lot of signal degradation. My router is an older Airport Extreme base station (802.11n) that I got circa 2007. Can I use an Airport Express placed closer to my bedroom to boost the signal? If so, how? From what I have read, this seems to be the case, but I am not sure I understand all the issues.

Thanks,
Rob

There are WiFi extenders, though I’ve personally not had a lot of success with them (from a personal perspective using cheap commercially available stuff…our Meraki network uses a mesh system and works great in that mode). I’d go with a new access point, personally, and one that allows you to add higher gain antennas to it. Maybe invest in some ethernet cabling in your house to more strategically position your AP to provide better coverage. Myself, I got several free Meraki APs from taking some classes and doing some webinars so that’s what I’ve got in my own home, but you can get some descent APs with upgradable antennas at places like Best Buy or even Walmart. Boost your signal and you will not only be able to connect that iPad mini but get better throughput as well.
