New Jersey... Anyone out there?

Wow…reading this thread has actually made me homesick.

sigh

Crazy! I am from NJ and now in Tampa too. I just went back out to visit and had forgotten how different it is up there. Talk about culture shock!

Whereabouts in Tampa are you?

Me too.

This actually made me depressed.

After living in ABQ, NM for awhile, I realize how much I don’t like it here. I could never live here for more than 2 years. lol

NJ has everything, including everyone in my entire family.

I wanna go home.

sigh

Bingo. I’ve heard of it. Didn’t notice your question before. The creator of it is from Riverside, NJ. I’ve seen it only on shelves in that area of South Jersey.

Isn’t it like a thick syrupy concoction?

Man, I posted that in April. That’s people from Jersey for you, a day late and a dollar short

Growing up, it seemed like everyone had the stuff. It was this sorta nasty syrup that you bought in gallon jugs and mixed with water. IIRC it had a ton of caffeine. People would give it to their kids straight when they had a cold.

Reminded me of flat Pepsi. Is it still available?

Tegaboost is still available.

Gallon jugs, yes.

Need a shipment?

Before t-boost: :o

After t-boost:
Yep, it is a syrupy caffeiney liquistuff you need to dilute.

I think there is a market called the Flying Feather that sells it.

Is it any better or worse than Jolt?

If you condensed the syrup/caffeine they add to jolt, you’d have Tegaboost. It comes in gallone jugs nonetheless!

It’s super-concentrated Jolt juice sans carbonation in bulk size!

It should be diluted, but I’m sure some folks don’t.

Funky. I never heard of the stuff before. Where’d ya buy it? Jewel T?

dantheman , you just whooshed me.

It’s local stuff. I believe as local as just parts of one county. I was in a market 2 miles from where the creator of this stuff lived, and it’s the only time I saw it.

It’ s been around for years, but even 'round South Jersey, I don’t see it much. Probably sits on the shelves of a number of farmer markets, roadside produce stands, small family owned convenience stores…that sort of thing.

I did? You don’t remember Jewel T?

I was just tossing around a SJ reference. Jewel T was the supermarket where you brought your own bags/boxes/whatever. It was very bare bones.

dantheman - Jolt is better than Takaboost only because it’s carbonated.

I don’t remember Takaboost being available at Jewel T (I’m talking about the one at East Ridge Plaza in Willingboro). But I’m pretty sure that in the '70s you could get it at the Kennedy Shop’n Bag - it was in the produce section, underneath the cooler thingies where they displayed the fruits and veggies.

I think Philster felt whooshed because Jewel T almost certainly wasn’t just a South Jersey thing - the parent company was based in Chicago, I think. He’s definitely right about how local the stuff is - the farther you get away from Riverside, the less likely you are to have heard of it.

There’s a little bit of history regarding the name of the stuff. I’m sketchy on the details, but I remember clearly that a long time ago it used to be called Drink a Toast. I think there was a split in the family that owned it, and someone branched off and started making their own and called it Boost! Maybe the Drink a Toast operation folded, because it’s been gone for a long time. Then some years ago there was a problem using Boost! as the name because there was some Slim Fast type drink using it, so they changed it to TakaBoost.

The only part of this story I’m sticking to is that it used to be called Drink a Toast.

Well, you’re confirming the existence of the Jewel T supermarkets, so that counts for something. Thought I was going nuts there!

It was very regional. Everyone I knew drank it, so I assummed the whole world drank it. You’d be in another town and ask for a Take-a-Boost, and they thought you were nuts.
Philster, what do you think a shipment would cost? Those jugs were pretty heavy.

I was thinking of making mixed drinks with it that would be uniquely mine! Something with rum, or Jager and Boost! I could call it Take-a-Puke.

I do remember Jewel T, but did see them in other states. IIRC, they also did home sales and would come around with a truck full of food. Kind of like Schwanns (if you know what they are).

We also used to get home potato chip delivery from Charle’s Chips. Was this a Jersey thing, or did other people get cans of chips delivered to their homes?

Charles Chips? Never got home delivery in the boondocks, but I do remember them. Always got them with Herr’s.
