New Jersey & Bruce Springsteen are closely tied together. What other pairings are as tight?

Close enough. They never sang about Sweet Home Jacksonville now did they?

Jimmy Buffet is from Mississippi and Alabama originally but he is mostly associated with Florida. I think the Gulf Coast states are just making some strategic trades. Do you have to be from a place to be closely associated with it in popular opinion?

What about Gloria Estefan and Miami? I hear she ran entire sound machine from there.

The Eagles and California (can’t believe that wasn’t mentioned above, unless it was and I missed it).

In addition to the Ramones and Blondie and New York, mentioned above, also the New York Dolls (duh) and Talking Heads.

Jerry Jeff Walker is originally form New York state, but he’s strongly associated with Texas.

The Eagles, with CA. Beach Boys w/ SoCal.

Don Ho with HI.

Boston with… Boston.

What were their best known hits?

Athens, Georgia - The B-52s and REM

Also, Memphis, TN and Elvis Presley -which probably the most famous pairing of all.

Gary, Indiana - The Jacksons

Nugent is often referred to as the “Motor City Madman”. Google “motor city madman” and see who comes up.

Ani DiFranco was often identified with Buffalo but apparently lives in New Orleans now. But then Springsteen, identified in the title, has a Beverly Hills mansion for over 30 years.

Charlottesville, VA: Dave Matthews Band
Richmond: Cracker and GWAR
San Diego: Stone Temple Pilots
Atlanta: Alan Jackson
Chicago: The Blues Brothers, Smashing Pumpkins
DC: Chuck Brown

R.E.M. and Athens, GA

Rush and Toronto, Ontario

Slipknot and Des Moines, Iowa, a city also placed on the rock’n’roll map by Ozzy Osbourne :stuck_out_tongue:

Seattle and (especially) Nirvana

Bob Mould and his associated projects, and the Twin Cities

Bruce has an estate only a few miles from me. I’m not sure what part of the year he spends at each location, but he has been in Monmouth county most of that 30 years and the 30+ years before that.

Big Screamin’ McGrew!

I’m sure at some time. But he was born, raised and is buried there.

I assume the OP was going for a place the performer was identified with, not merely where they were from. Otherwise you could just say any singer was identified with their hometown.

I agree that Hendrix is not identified with Seattle other than it being his hometown.

Pearl Jam and Nirvana are identified with Seattle, although only one of the five members of the former and none of the three main members of the latter were born there.

“Close enough”!! It’s a thread about how tight the connection is.

I’ll stick with the Ultimate Spinach.

And I think of Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders (“I went back to Ohio/but my city was gone.”)

Boston - The Standells

Sorry, I missed that you were going for bands. But Barack Obama can sing pretty well! (Not sure about Oprah)

The Bay City Rollers and Edinburgh.
