The ferals that live under our house had litters, and something is starting to show up and take them in the night. Coyote, I think. This one is so friendly and cute that I couldn’t stand the thought of him becoming a meal, so this morning I cat-napped him, took him to the vet for a checkup and the first of his shots, and brought him inside. Havoc and Pixel are rather disconcerted, to say the least. Right now, Caelan has his own room (a canvas/mesh travel crate for a dog), and his own food, water and litterbox. As the girls get used to him, I’ll let him out more and more. By the end of the week they should be romping merrily (I hope). Forget the fact that Havoc outweighs him by 11 lbs.
He’s asleep, and it’s funny to watch Havoc stare at this big box, as if it contained a monster.
6 weeks. Weaned, but would plug into his mama if the chance presented itself. He goes back in two weeks for his next set of shots, then we see how he grows before we have him clipped.
He’s a manipulator, too. I had him on the metal table at the vet. The assistant left to get the vet, and Caelan started climbing my shirt. Up the front, onto the shoulder, onto the back of the neck…I kept bending over farther and farther so he wouldn’t fall. So when the vet entered the room, this 1 lb. kitten had me bent over the exam table like I was getting the exam!
I’m trying to get the other in at YAPS, but they have a waiting list. I do what I can, but Mother Nature is a bitch. Over Christmas break, the two mothers are getting caught and spayed. We like having them around because they keep down the mice from the field across the street.
I should point out that Caelan managed to secure that spot by evicting Havoc first. He just climbed up, bumped noses with her, and she hissed and jumped down.
<sigh>
Eventually they will get along. I have to tell myself that it’s only been 24 hours.
