One cannot simply just sell the rights to the Lord of the rings to a Swedish intellectual property conglomerate (and not expect consequences).
Well, then. Very little information at the moment, but we shall see.

Money grab.
Now remaking the Hobbit correctly would be excellent.
I don’t really think The Hobbit has to be remade; just edit Jackson’s trilogy down into a single film.
At the bottom of the linked article:
Please tell me it’ll be a Disney-style cartoon.
I can’t tell if you’re making a joke about the word ear, or actually asking the question, but…the film will be based on the very successful musical that’s based on the book and first film.
This seems ill-conceived. With negative reactions to both The Hobbit and Rings Of Power, I am not sure this will be a guaranteed money-spinner.
So Middle-earth is a franchise. Of course it is. Based on that story, they are now turning it into something that sits comfortably alongside superhero movies.
All I can say, after watching parts of The Hobbit trilogy and last summer’s Amazon mess, is ugh. I am truly now Bored of the Rings (copywrite a couple of guys in 1969). I didn’t think it was possible, but as far as I’m concerned, Tolkien crapola can take a running leap.
83% favourable rating on RT, Amazon Prime’s most watched series ever, renewed up to at least Season 3. The “negative reactions” are a failed backlash narrative.
They are only beginning to tap the pool of available power jeweler items.
Set to Prince’s back catalogue.
As for re-adapting Tolkien, while the Peter Jackson films may not be perfect in every way, they’re a high bar to top. With so many other literary properties available to adapt (Elric of Melniboné, The Dying Earth, Ringworld, Patternmaster, et cetera) what is the obsession with extracting maximum creative juice out of Tolkien, who frankly wasn’t much of a narrativist anyway?
Stranger
Given the deathly dull, sprawling, incoherent mess that was “rings of power” I think going back to a simple story told on an epic scale could be a winner. The back catalogue of material that the film rights could tap into are rich indeed. Given the right creative direction and a firm focus on storytelling I’d definitely be interested.
News on TORN:
Studio heads of WB confirms they will never remake the heralded trilogy, but continue to expand the Legendarium:
Statement from PJ et al:
“Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way,” the Oscar-winning trio said. “We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward.”
News to me is there will be an anime The War of the Rohirrim is coming in 2024

No, there were plenty of legitimate, honest negative reactions—ranging from people who hated it to people who were disappointed that it didn’t live up to its potential. Do I need to link to the thread where we discussed it?
Just the other day, I ran across a video speculating “Was the Rings of Power script AI generated?”

Because nowadays all movies have to be part of existing franchises, or based on intellectual property that audiences will already be familiar with. (For evidence, see the list of additional upcoming projects at the end of the linked article.)
(This is not to say that I, personally, don’t agree with your point of view, just that it’s not the way Hollywood thinks.)
Tolkien, who frankly wasn’t much of a narrativist anyway?
So what (if you’re right, which I think is debatable)? The narrative doesn’t have to come from Tolkien, just the background/world.
Personally, I have mixed feelings. Part of me leans toward @Roderick_Femm’s point of view, part of me toward @Novelty_Bobble’s.

Well quite, I’m not sure why people insist the generally lukewarm reaction to it must be part of a bigger issue. Compared to other series I watched last year I found it to be poor.
I’ve yet to meet anyone in real life who raved about it. “fine” is about the right level. You know, time passed, things happened…colours, shapes and movement, that sort of thing.
Just the other day, I ran across a video speculating “Was the Rings of Power script AI generated?”
I just asked chatGPT to generate lines of dialogue in the style of “the rings of power” and I have a sneaking suspicion that might be true!

Well dayum. Sure, another try could wind up being worse than Peter Jackson’s movie version of the trilogy, but there was plenty of room for it to be done better. Enough time has passed for someone to give it another try.
I’m waiting for Tom Bombadil, The Early Years.
No, there were plenty of legitimate, honest negative reactions
There were negative reactions, yes. But when people phrasing it as “With negative reactions to […] Rings Of Power”, not “with some negative reactions”, the implication is clearly that the overall reaction was negative, and that it was a flop. This is not the case. That is what I mean by a narrative driven by failed backlash.
Do I need to link to the thread where we discussed it?
Do you think I don’t recall a thread I was quite active in?
Do you think I don’t recall a thread I was quite active in?
If I remember right, not only were you quite active in it, but you were far more favorably disposed toward “Rings of Power” than almost everyone else in that thread.
I loved it, yes.
what is the obsession with extracting maximum creative juice out of Tolkien, who frankly wasn’t much of a narrativist anyway?
It’s profitable.
People will watch mediocre-to-crappy stuff like Rings of Power, Loki, and The Book of Boba Fett because they know the franchises. It’s an extremely low risk investment, and networks and production studios are businesses. Producing a TV series about Patternmaster is very high risk, because most people have never heard of it and they might not tune in even if the show is good.
Best thing I can say for Rings of Power was that it was far better than House of Dragons. But it was a lot less fun than Willow. Ring had some good stuff, some frustrating stuff but it was watchable. HOD was just boring. So boring. No characters of interest either.
