I was sure this thread was going to be about spam from the Social Security Administration, which I and millions of others received last week.
The first time I got such a call, I was actually half convinced and blurted out, “Keenan” and of course it was. But they gave me the name of a purported lawyer in Ottawa that I was supposed to read the number on the gift card to. Since I was still suspicious, I looked up the name on some Ottawa lawyer online list and it wasn’t there, so I did nothing. They called me back and wanted to know why I hadn’t acted. I told them and they hung up.
The second time is when I asked which one. When the guessed a name, I whispered to my wife that I was going to have some fun with these guys. They must have heard that because they hung up. I was planning to tell my grandson to spend a night in jail; it will be a good lesson for you and see how they responded. There has never been a third such call. Maybe I will try blurting out “George” and going on from there.
