hMMMM… Mad Mel is getting pretty long in the tooth to be the same old Max and after the direction the franchise took with Thunder Dome I’m not very excited about the prospects of this one. I can see wind sailing vehicles and weird tribalism. What worked for the first two films was the high octane factor. In a world without gas you are missing that. Road Warrior was the pinnacle. Unless they ignore the last film I say this will be a Floppo!
The Bluehaired Max?
I managed to misread “fury road” as “furry road”… truly a scary scenario.
Mad Max: Resurrection?
If Harrison Ford can do another Indiana Jones and Arnold is Terminating again, why shouldn’t Mel get his dingo out for another romp through the outback?
Let’s hope it doesn’t convince Travolta to do Battlefield Earth II.
Actually, despite the fact I don’t like homophobic Mel, the Mad Max series were sorta fun, although more like a tv series/mini series than a real film. Tina Turner was a kick in Thunderdome.
“homophobic Mel”
Just curious… Was there some incident or comment?
Crotchety Max
Oh yes…years ago there were rumors that Mel might be gay. When asked about it in an article in a Spanish magazine, Mel didn’t just deny the fact, he went off on quite a homophobic rage/tangent. The article was translated and printed in various magazines around the world and his previous gay following dropped him like the proverbial lead balloon.
It is one thing to deny being gay, but his rant went way over the top.
I am delighted. I loved the other two Mad Max movies. If George Miller is directing, there’s a chance this film will be decent too. (The big question in my mind is—who will be doing the musical score? Last time it was Maurice Jarre, and he was wonderful.)
And you know, Mel Gibson isn’t really that old. He’s like 46? Wasn’t Harrison Ford 47 when he did “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”? (Checking IMDb.com—yep.) I didn’t think Ford was too old for that part in 1989, I don’t think Mel is too old for to play Max now, and if the script is right, I don’t think Arnold or Ford are too old for new movies either. As long as they don’t have dentures falling out of their heads during action scenes, and they don’t need the help of walkers, they are fit enough.
Dmark Did you see any of them in the theatre? I did. All three of them, when they were first released. Road Warrior blew me away, and is certainly a movie best enjoyed on the big screen.
And I do hope that Travolta does Battlefield Earth II and III and… so we can finally get rid of his sorry excuse for an actor. To bad he got a hit with Pulp Fiction, otherwise, he’d be doing an endless amount of bad sit-coms. Possibly entitled “Look who’s yacking again.”
Anyone hope Tina Turner will play a role? Do you think we should see the pilot?
Thats what came to mind to me as well I hope they remember what made the first two films so good - high speeds and V8s!
It seemed to me that in ‘Thunderdome’ the world had started to civilize a bit, what with Bartertown forming. A good direction maybe for this movie to take would be gasoline being produced again, but only enough for it to be still about as rare a substance as in ‘Road Warrior’.
As long as there are midgets in the movie and threats of death by lowering into methane-production pits, then I’m IN (the movie, not the pits).
How old was Sean Connery in The Rock? He kicked ass.
Rhum Runner: According to IMDb, Connery was born in 1930, The Rock was made in 1996. Connery was 66. Not too bad for an ol’ geezer!
Seriously! Now, Mel is no Sean Connery, but if Connery can pull off the lead in The Rock at 66! then surely Mel can pull another Mad Max. Hell, Connery today at 72 still kicks ass! 72!
I think it’s time I change my user name. There are too many Max’s out there as it is.
does that make you Mad?
