New Message Board for Writers

I hope this is OK - I spoke to Tuba and she said it was.

I am a frustrated writer who would love to be involved in a Writer’s Group but never have had the time to participate in one since just after college. So, I’ve tried to set one up online, the What I Write Message Board.

It’s pretty nice - it has everything I think a Writer’s Group needs… except members. So, since I know there are a lot of writers here at the SDMB, I thought I would give you all a chance to get in on the ground floor.

It’s all set up on free servers to see if anyone is interested before we spend any money. You should know going in that this means you will encounter some ads.

If you want to check it out, head over to http://www.geocities.com/wiwmb.

Aaaargh!!

The url is http://www.geocities.com/wiwmb

UBB put the period into the URL in my last post.

If a Mod sees this, please correct the last post and delete this one. Thanks a mil.

I’m not bumping this thread out of fear that some SDMB Writers have missed it. No… not me.

I’m bumping it because… uhh… because i’m afraid that the Mods haven’t seen it yet and I want them to fix my coding mistake.

[sub]Yeah… that’s the ticket![/sub]

I tried to register. EZBoard keeps timing out my registration request.

I’m pulling my hair out over here.

:sigh:

Yeah. Free servers stink.

All I can say is, “Keep on trying.” I promise that it’s usually much, much faster than it is right now.

I’m not sure it has to do with the free servers. When I register, I am redirected to the EZBoard homepage. After entering all their info, I assume it is supposed to return me to the WIWMB, but it never actually acknowledges my registration. I’m thinking the problem may be with the MB provider, not GeoCities.

I know the problem lies with ezBoard; they are a free service as well. :frowning:

If the trouble you are having is registering, you can go to the ezBoard HomePage (www.ezboard.com) and click the Join link in the upper right-hand corner. Then, once you’re registered, go back to the homepage and enter “wiwmb” into the Jump to a Specific Board slot.

That might work better. Maybe. Who knows?

Orge, you could try registering at ez-board through my stories site (link in my sig) because some of the problems that occasionally crop up are localized to what “pub” the boards are on. I know the last time they did a huge upgrade the sites in my pub and 2 others were the last three to go back online…

I’m gonna try to register, sdimbert. So consider me the next member.

And oh boy do I have lots of stuff to contribute.

Count me in, too. I’m in the midst of writing my first novel.
…off to register…

That’s one cool Board!!

I remember, in days of yore, when the Internet was new - one of the first websites (back in the Hypertext days, before pictures were discovered) was a Build-a-story site just like your board.

Readers clicked through the story, reading right along until they came to a blank page. The rules said that when that happened, it was your responsibility to take the story… “One Page FURTHER!”

Heh… memories… it was cool.

iampunha, iampunha and anyone else interested: Whatever it was slowing things down last night seems to have been fixed; the board is running well this morning.

(err… that should be iampuhna and Atreyu.

I’m not doing so well here…

I’m aboard!!

Zev Steinhardt

Welcome, Zev!

So… who’s submitting?

I just signed up. Looking forward to see what everyone has contributed so far.

Well, I had joined ezboards before, & if you join globally you can go to any of its boards, so that shouldn’t have been a problem. Except I had only been on ezboard once before, and forgot which username & password variation I used. (I have a couple of general-use passwords, but vary them a little on some sites. Hard to explain.) But I eventually tracked down my one previous post & said, “Oh, I didn’t sign on as foolsguinea after all!” Then I tried the proper username w/ all my usual passwords, & one unusual variant I vaguely remembered. None worked, so I had them email me my password. Which was almost exactly like the one unusual variant I remembered. I got a character wrong. ::phew!::

So, anyway, you may see me under a different name.

foolsguinea: So, anyway, you may see me under a different name.

So, how will we know it’s you?

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Ya know, we set up a Yahoo club for SDMB writers a while ago. It lasted for a month or so and then died out. Well, I mean, it’s still in existence, but nobody has posted to it since (…checking…) February. Yeesh.

Hopefully, you’ll have better luck.

When I submit my work, my nick is EliotPrufrock, just to clear up any confusion.

Great idea, sdimbert.
