One of the trailers I saw before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was for a movie called Flight Risk. About a minute in, title cards pop up that say “From the Academy Award Winning Director of Braveheart, And Apocalypto, And Hacksaw Ridge,” but it never mentions The Passion of the Christ, or Mel Gibson. I thought this was incredibly interesting. I know he’s done several movies since “the incident.” I guess they thought about what people’s reactions might be to see is name so prominently displayed in a trailer.
I did see the trailer and completely missed that. I don’t pay attention to the “from the same…” spiel and didn’t in this one. It struck me more that they revealed apparently everything about the plot in the trailer.
Hollywood suits are not noted for bravery or creativity. “Play safe unless impossible” seems to be their tagline.
I don’t usually notice either, but this one really stuck out. I do remember after the Matrix was a success, there was a lot of “from the fight choreographer of…” and “from the stunt coordinator of…”
I didn’t watch it in the theater, so it didn’t pop out as much on my phone.
I wouldn’t care about “the incident” as much as I think he’s a shitty director. So, in that case, not using his name might have fooled me into seeing it. Thank you, OP.
