New Oldest Blast Furnace in British North America Found

This one looks as if it predates the Earliest Ironworks in America at Saugus, MA, and the other Earliest Ironworks in America at Quincy MA, and even the Earliest Ironworks in America in New Jersey. But at least the one here in Saugus has a cool working replica.

I remember being impressed a while back when I read of the sheer volume of wood that was required to fuel early metallurgy efforts. The literal denuding of acres and acres of surrounding forest would require periodic relocation of furnace sites. Always a little surprising to learn of the large scale on which industry was conducted in relatively early times.
