New polypill says it can cut heart disease risks by 80%, so then what will happen?

“A single pill combining six heart medications could avert more than 80 percent of heart attacks and strokes if heart patients and everyone over 55 took it, British scientists said Thursday.”

“The pill, which they call the “polypill,” would contain aspirin, a cholesterol-lowering drug, three blood pressure-lowering drugs at half the standard dose and folic acid.”
So my question is, then what happens after you start taking it? Would this pill, if it works as it says it does, end heart attacks and strokes as the main killer of the 65+ age group so that people died of cancer instead (i think cancer is the no. 2 killer of the elderly) or just put the heart attacks & strokes off for a few years?

I saw this part

“They calculated that one-third of the over-55s taking the pill would benefit, gaining on average about 11 years of life free from a heart attack or stroke.”

So i am unsure. I’m also unsure which board this goes to. But that is what mods are for i guess.

Color me cynical but I can’t see a drug like that being approved here in the US. How would doctors make money if the heart attack rate plummeted?
