I don’t think any less of any poster for taking a, “Hey, I’m in a bad place” post at face value and posting their feelings. Even if this poster turned out to be a big liar or just “conducting an experiment” or whatever. That cheapens them, not you. The points you and other poster’s made are still valid, IMHO.
I don’t really look at who posted what as far as replying to a point. I’ve even agreed with a troll or two on what I felt was valid. However, that is me. I have no interest in dictating to you or anyone else what they are comfortable with. I had my own growing pains out here and I know what it’s like to be the new tramp on the block. I’m now a well established tramp and I can really get away with a LOT so time, and post count, does have it’s value!
I can at times be really nice or really a bitch. Like Diane, it depends on my mood. Sometimes, I find myself posting to a thread just BECAUSE it was started by someone I know and like even though I’m not all that interested in the topic. I try to be fair but yes, I’m more swayed by those I “know” rather than a newbie.
I don’t think this is so out of line. I haven’t put my parameters into a guide like Satan but hey, that’s his choice, right? He can do or not do what he’s comfortable with. You might not like it or even agree with it but that’s still his call.

IMHO if you let the sock puppets and trolls determine how you’re going to read other people’s posts, they’ve already won.
I read every post for it’s content, and generally don’t decide its quality until I’ve read it, without looking at the name of the poster and/or the number of posts that person has.
Of course, you can set your own personal policies as to what you read and don’t read, but if such a policy excludes your reading of something like London Calling’s very first post in this thread I think you’re going to missing a lot.

There are a lot of new people on board I’m happy to meet, and I’ve never thought that a person had to have hundreds or thousands of posts stacked up to be worth listening to. I just really get offended when ONE of them decides to try and instigate some fucked up Reg v. Newbie war.

Newbie this and newbie that, what a bunch of bullshit! If you’re new, but you have something meaningful to contribute, you probably won’t run into any “post count snobbery”. If you’re new and learning the ropes, you’ll probably be treated differently by different people until you get your act together (it’s what happened to me, can happen to a lot of folks).
I’m not going to post any rules, though they be based on careful observation of how things go down around here. I’m not going to say who I will or will not ignore.
Just get off it already, post count isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Satan: Your rules sadden me. I have read a lot of your posts and you are IMHO a very entertaining person, but I guess I will always be ignored by you. Why? Because I don’t have my e-mail address in my profile. If someone wants my e-mail address they can ask for it, but I don’t need spam or people I don’t want to converse with off the board e-mailing me.
Although, I am not sure why I am explaining my reasons since they will be ignored, all I have to say is if this is your thing than go with it. It just makes me sad that there are people you will never give a chance to because of the bad experiences you have had previously.

For quite some time I have been reading nearly every thread in GQ, GD and the Pit and thinking about them. If I have something to contribute, I do. If I dont, I don’t. My post count is low but I like to think that I make decent posts. Whew! At least I am now (by one) past that sacred century mark and Satan can now hear me. Oh wait! I still use the free email adress I have had for five years that I still use (instead of my college or ISP account) becasue that it is the one that people know me at! Oh well…

I wish you luck with your newly developed and excessively elaborate system of determining a poster’s value according to an arbitrary number. I never would have thought of something so complicated to serve such a simple purpose. You see, I am among the simple folk who respond when they are interested, entertained, annoyed, intrigued or offended. I don’t feel the need to judge everyone that comes here. Nor do I feel the need to respond to every post. I guess that’s why I haven’t felt the need to develop and announce meaningless rules such as yours.

You see, I started coming here last week after posting for the last couple of years on a Board Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken, one where virtually any subject would deteriorate into a shouting match. It was quite tiring. Here, however, people are so well written, so mature that even here, in the designated cesspit, the level of abusive discourse barely reaches mildly insulting. It’s a credit to the site, and someday I would be honored to be considered a true Doper.
As for my comment on seniority - I’ve done my Army time, and trust me, you guys treat newbies with kid gloves.

Nothing to add to my previous post, but I just wanted to state that I read the OP as very specific and literal. If I missed something that shows otherwise, someone please point it out to me as I fail to see it. If not, then my opinion of your last post is that it is nothing more than a back peddle.
When you start throwing out titles such as “fundies” towards those who opposed your views, you should be careful when you aim. Excuse me if I am mistaken, but the majority of the people who took up issues with your OP are not “fundies”, myself included.
