The Washington Post has just started an extensive five-part series concerning the history of how police are portrayed in books, movies and television. It really gets into the early history, how Jack Webb got cooperation(and why he didn’t show what he wanted to show), how J. Edgar Hoover controlled what(and even who-they had to have the proper politics!) would be portrayed on F.B.I., and much more. Apparently the series will even touch on non-fictional portrayals, like the show Cops. I can’t wait for the next installment.
