I know a lot of you guys are suckers for kittens, so I thought I’d post a picture of my new Siamese. Sorry about the low quality – it was taken with a cell phone:
I haven’t thought of a name for her yet.
I’ve always wanted a Siamese, but never wanted to pay the price. I’d feel a little icky paying hundreds of dollars for a purebreed kitten when so many free kittens are waiting to be rescued from the pound.
But I lucked out – it just so happened that my uncle received an 8-week-old Siamese kitten as a gift a few weeks ago, and since he couldn’t keep her, I was first in line for the new kitten. So not only do I finally have the cat I’ve alway wanted, I don’t have to feel guilty about it.
Questions? Comments? Pictures of your cats/kittens?
What a beautiful face! ::makes silly baby talk noises:: Is the rest of her on the way?
Does she talk a lot yet? If she’s anything like Valentino, the more you talk to her the more she will talk back. You may not be able to understand a word she says, but conversations can be carried on.
Siamese can be weird. Love on her and hold her a lot as a kitten if you want her to be affectionate. As I am typing this, 'Tino is sitting on my desk, about a foot from my face, staring at me. If I look in his direction, he starts purring. Silly cat! Mr. SCL gave him to me for Valentine’s Day about 12 years ago. When we went to choose a kitten, Mr. SCL said “I want that one - the one who just ran into the wall.” Beautiful as a sunrise, but dumb as a box of rocks!
Ooh, what a pretty Meezer! I would love to have a Siamese again, but I already have 2 cats. Sometimes, I browse the Siamese rescue boards, just to look. Don’t tell my furry overlords!
Yes, she’s already more vocal than most kittens I’ve had. Lots of little whines, chirps, trills and squeaks.
Do you realize how hard it is to photograph an 8-week-old kitten? They can’t hold still for more than a few microseconds. I don’t think I’ve seen her sleep yet.
Here’s part of her:
And here’s the whole kitten, just to prove that she really is intact:
I think she was saying something in that last picture.
You might be surprised at how many Siamese looking mixes you might find at a shelter. We had about 3 litters and one single kitten that all had Siamese coloring come into our clinic a few months ago. I think there must have been a blue or lilac point Siamese Tom running around the city. We had to send them all on to the shelter except for the single kitten. Guess where that one ended up?
She’s adorable, she even has slightly crossed eyes.
I’d post a pic but they are all on my cameraphone and the media service I pay extra for never works, so I can’t email the pics to myself. grumble
Yep. Last time I was in the market for another cat, there were several Siamese looking kittens and cats at the Humane Society. I ended up getting a very young adult (about a year old, maybe a bit older) and she has just about all of the classic Siamese traits, as well as Siamese markings. She’s the most affectionate and demanding cat I’ve ever had. There are also Siamese (and other breed) rescues, if you want a particular breed of cat or dog.
Since I don’t intend to breed or show any pets, I see no need to pay the price for a breeder or show quality animal.
