Trump just picked a contraception skeptic to head federal family planning...

There’s a little more to the story from my angle.

I knew her. :eek:

We worked together for a while when we were in college, at a restaurant; I was one of the few people working there who liked her (really, I did; she was always nice to me and that’s why) although it was mostly a matter of her being in a place where she didn’t belong.

Some years back, the old Court TV did a show about Safe Haven laws, and she was working for a pro-life agency at the time and was interviewed about this.

She was opposed to the concept. Figures.

Good grief, potentially restricting access to birth control is going to make all those problems worse!

In a 2003 radio interview, Manning noted that pro-choice advocates “promote contraception and birth control as a way to reduce the incidence of abortion. There really is no evidence to support that. In fact, the incidence of contraception use and the incidence of abortion go up hand in hand.” She also said that pro-choice advocates view abortion as a backup form of contraception for when birth control fails (oral contraception is effective over 99 percent of the time when taken properly): “Of course, contraception doesn’t work. Its efficacy is very low especially when you consider over years,” she said. Manning continued: “The prospect that contraception would always prevent the conception of a child is preposterous.”

Well, if abortion and contraception use both go up, I guess her “logic” is that decreasing contraception use will decrease abortions. WTF?

I’d like to see the evidence of that claim.

Isn’t abstinence considered a form of contraception? Usually it’s what these religious types preach to the unmarried.

I’m pretty sure abstinence actually does work and prevents pregnancy.

The Republicans have been doing this sort of thing for years; since Bush II at least. They want to destroy the government and hate helping people in any way, so they appoint people to positions of authority who are opposed to the functions of that authority.
