Another OC dope here - heya, Skydive101!
I live within 20 minutes of Disneyland, 10 of Knott’s, and an hour of Magic Mountain. Must be the climate here - breeds crazy people!

By the way, concerning places you should visit, just wanted to mention…
In n Out - The finest hamburger in the land.
No Way.
Everyone knows Fatburger is where it’s at. And their Fat Fries are far beyond the oogy fries that In-n-Out serves.
Hopefully this doesn’t start another In-n-Out VS. Fatburger debate…
I’m not much of a burger lover but when I occassionally get the urge to eat one, I say hands down *Fatburger makes the best!! Oh, and their fries, to die for! (sorry musicguy:D)
On the other hand if you’re a vegetarian, In-n-Out makes some awesome grilled cheese sandwhiches and their shakes are very yummy!
Preview is my friend
Another vote for Fatburger. Now In-N-Out makes a good burger, but their fries suck donkies. The only thing I don’t like about Fatburger is that you have to tell them not to put mustard and relish on the burger. That ruins them. But get a Fatburger without the mustard and relish, and it’s much tastier than In-N-Out’s very good burger.
And Fatburger has two kinds of fries, neither one of which are crappy.
Fatburger is a fine burger. My original comment still stands:)
But I wholeheartedly agree that In-n-Out’s fries leave a lot to be desired. So Fatburger gets my vote for the fries. Of course, if you want to talk shakes…
So.
Who’s planning the Dopefest for this new person?
Not I.
And…In-N-Out? You’ve got to be kidding me. (Where’s the barf smiley when you need one.) I haven’t eaten at Fatburgers, so I have no opinion on it.
AFAIC, Johnny Rockets is the way to go.
If you have one close to you, that is.
Checking in from Cypress (on the border of Orange and LA counties, about 90 minutes north of Oceanside). I enjoy In-N-Out burgers, though I avoid their fries assiduously. Fatburger I haven’t had since the last time I was in Inglewood, about six or seven years ago.
Welcome to SoCal!
I do believe there is a Johnny Rockets in downton La Jolla.
A bit of a drive from Oceanside, but certainly worth it, because there are plenty of other things to do and see in La Jolla.
Yeah, Scout1222, like checking out the nasty squid that’s washing ashore by the ton! Seriously, though. Definitely check out La Jolla Cove(maybe in a few weeks, once the squid thing is in check), it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of coast I have ever seen!
I have never understood the attraction to In-N-Out burger, myself. I don’t know, I have just never found any of their food to be all that good. I’ve never been to fat burger, or Johnny Rockets, so no idea what they’re like, but I’ll make sure to keep them in mind when in an area where I can try for myself. If I am going to go for something that is only available in this area, you’ll find me at Alberto’s! I’m afraid that it would be incredibly hard for me to move out of the area, based solely on my rampant Alberto’s addiction.

Hello, Skydive !
Oh, those In N Out fries are much better if you order them well done.
Here they are, on the secret menu:
And for more Trader Joe’s chow, try:
hummus
tabbouleh
mini pitas
dark chocolate covered raisins
Gyoza
Banana Bonanza loaf
Cranberry pumpkin loaf
And as you’ve already been told, there’s plenty of fun stuff down Oceanside way.
Enjoy, and welcome!

Fatburger puts salt and pepper on their beef. You need to cook it in, not just put it on a cooked patty. I think that’s what makes them better. Johnny Rockets makes a good burger, but you’re talking about eight bucks when you add fries and a drink. Tasty, but not as good as Fatburger.
When I go to Johnny Rockets I get the chili dog with chili cheese fries and a Mr. Pibb. Oh, yassss!
Welcome to SoCal, Skydive!
I’m up the road a piece, in the San Fernando Valley, but if you ever get up this way, drop me a line and we’ll catch some lunch at my favorite restaurant in the Valley. I’m talking about Lulu’s, but regulars call it “Alice’s Restaurant” because of the 6 page, 8 point type menu - as in You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant…
Hope you enjoy it - this is a great place to live!

Well, ya try to suggest a good place to eat and the next thing you know…burger wars! Sorry to have started the hijack:)
But while we are on the subject, just wondering Johnny L.A., Have you ever had a “Meaty Meat” burger, located at pico and fairfax. I haven’t been there for many years and aren’t even sure they still exist but they blew every burger mentioned here out of the water.
As long as we’re quasi-‘jackin’ the thread…Does anybody know where this Rally’s Burger place is that I keep seeing on TV? They never mention the location.
There are a number of Rally’s down here in San Diego County, I’ve been going there for some 14 years. Not sure why, but the one closest to me is no longer there, I just noticed a couple of weeks ago. If you’re in OC, or LA, I haven’t the slightest idea where to point you, though, sorry. I’m sure you could find a list of locations on one of the online yellow pages, though.
They have awesome battered fries!

Thanks, V. I’m in eastern L.A. county, so I’m off to search.
Since we’re on the food subject, let’s not forget about Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt. I don’t know if they are in LA or San Diego, but they are all over OC and I LOVE the stuff!! Oh, and Diedrich’s Coffee rules over Starbucks, though they are also located in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and Texas.
