I wonder how many of us there are, and what would we be called:
SDMB.coms?
Peninsular Dopers?
El Camino Realists?
Finders of Faults?
Everybody check in. A Morgan Hill-ite here. (It’s 20 miles south of San Jose.)

Hmm. Well I’m not, but I drove through it once and I have to ask, where the hell do people eat out? Besides Denny’s.
???
psycat90: You have GOT to be kidding. This is restaurant central. Just ask my hips. I’ve put on ten pounds since moving here. We have a long, long list of very fine restaurants, including haute cuisine, ethnic, and everything under the sun. Unfortunately they are not visible from 101, but are integrated into all the various cities up and down the peninsula. The reason for the proliferation of fine dining here is the proliferation of yup dot coms with lots of money to spend thereon. So, next time you come through, look up me or GaWd, and prepare to be amazed. And bloated.
Not Silican Valley, but in the Bay Area: Oakland.
Union City…the self titled “Gateway to Silicon Valley!” Huh?
San Jose here. And in response to the resturant question, just look around and take a deep smell, you’ll be able to find any kind of food you want by just following your nose. Just don’t do it in N. Milpitas when the wind is blowing inland…Eau de Landfill and swamp.
San Franciscan here. specificly Mutlimedia Gultch.
Aha. thanks. Musts been the not visible from 101 thing that got us. I’m north of SF, in Sonoma county.
The heart of San Francisco “where little cable cars…”
SF here. Freshly moved, from New England (well a year ago).
And I must point out something disturbing.
20 years in New England - Red Sox suck. I move to SF and they’re tearing it up. Couple that with the fact that my first football season on the bay, resulted in the Niners stinking to high heaven, does not bode well for bay area teams.
I bring bad sports luck with me. Sorry, didn’t mean to.
San Jose (Willow Glen) here, moved from Boston last December and loving it!
Born in San Jose, lives in Mountain View.
Born in Redwood City, raised in scenic, exotic Hayward, currently living in SF. SOMA, to be exact, and working in Foster City. And I’d just like to chime in the food. Instead of taking 101 or 280 up and down the 'Nince, try El Camino Real. It’s much much slower, but every twenty blocks or so, it intersects with a cross street that’ll be filled to the gills with interesting places to eat at reasonable prices.
Oh yeah, baby. Center of the universe for the moment. Saratoga here.
Bill H., I 'm jealous. We were just in Saratoga last Saturday night. I think it’s the most desirable place to live in the whole Peninsula. Do you like the restaurant The Basin?
I live in Palo Alto. I eat at Andale, Jamba Juice, and Una Mas quite a bit.
Live in Alameda, work in San Mateo. I’m gazing at the lovely SM bridge as I type. It’s only 2:00 but it’s already starting to back up. My best food experience in San Mateo would have to be Camranh Bay. The cubed beef is happiness on a plate (if you’re a carnivore).
SF BAY, ALL THE WAY. The best place on earth.
Of course, the Real Estate prices are through the roof, but it’s still a great place to live. Restaurants? Don’t get me started…
Absolutely. Best food in the world. RIGHT HERE. mmmmm food.
slackergirl, where is Camranh Bay exactly?
oldscratch - you’re in SOMA? Been to Lulu’s?(sp?)Love it! Same with Boulevards. Spensive, but soooo goood.
