So mrAru bought a security camera that screws into a standard light fixture so he installed it in the outside front fixture on the barn. So far I have spotted 2 of the outside cats [ferals we did the catch vax and neuter then release] a curious bird [all I see is darkness then a beak and eye peering into the lens. Maybe a crow? A spider has spun a web close enough that we see it traversing the visual field tending the web, and we have a small brown bat that chases moths that are attracted to the light at night.
Hey, sometimes it is more interesting than TV programming =)
Spiders tend to be attracted to the infrared lights of the security camera at night, and you wind up having to periodically sweep away the webs to get a clear image. I don’t know of any camera that’s solved this issue.
I have a Wyze camera on my front porch. When I get up in the morning I look over the night’s videos and see the possums, raccoons, and neighborhood cats stroll up to the water bucket on the porch for a drinkie. Sometimes the raccoons stick their arms in the bucket up to their shoulders and slosh around.
I get a notification on my phone when something activates the camera, and that comes in handy when one of my cats wants to come in the front door. (She can’t reach the doorbell.) I can also watch the live video on the big screen my kindle (bigger than my phone), which is cool after I’ve closed the curtains and shut down for the evening.
The camera REALLY came in handy one time when I got a notification from amazon that something had been delivered, but there was nothing on the porch. I went to the camera footage on my phone and scrolled slowly back until I spotted the amazon truck stopped a couple of hours prior in front of the house across the street. Yup, there was the guy making a delivery. So I walked over there and retrieved my package-- met the neighbor’s caregiver-- nice guy! My package was there with a lot of other packages-- they hadn’t sorted out several days worth of deliveries yet. P.S. I’m #634; they’re #643-- delivery person read the address wrong. But without the camera, I wouldn’t have found out where the package went.
I highly recommend the Wyze camera. Since I have mine on the front porch, I’m able to run the very slim cord into the house under the window to plug it in. No batteries – yay!
