If this is true, and the human trials work, then may we be seeing the last of Alzheimer’s disease in the next few years?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful!
My most likely demise was predicted to be via Alzheimer’s, as both my mother, grandmother AND great grandmother suffered the final years of their lives.
So now I can start worrying about something else to knock me off the perch!
There does seem to be a number of promising Alzheimer’s treatments and cures in the pipeline. I’ve also seen what look to be a few interesting cancer treatments. Presuming that it takes ~20 years for things like this to make it onto the market, if you’re under the age of 40, you’ve got good reason to be hopeful.
And, I would expect that something non-invasive, like what’s in the OP’s link, would be able to get approved far faster than 20 years, so that is indeed a great find if it proves itself out at larger scales and on more complex brains. Though it sounds like it might be something that you would need to do periodically, so long as the disease persisted.
I’m 55
However, on the brighter side, it seems that early-onset dementia doesn’t run in the family, and both my nanna and mum were fine up until their mid-seventies. So there’s hope for me, yeah?
If the noise blasts thing works, I could see it coming through in 5 years.
But, that’s assuming it works and works for you. At the moment, it would still make sense to plan for making sure that your family can support you if your health turns bad. (Which, technically, will happen eventually no matter what, Alzheimer’s or no.)
Can this be true?? Imagine losing your memory to Alzheimer’s and getting it back! It will surely be too late for my dad, but it’s still the best thing I’ve read in a very long time.
Thanks for the thread, kambuckta.
I hope this works, but a lot of things work on lab mice that end up not working on humans. I read an article about cancer research where a researcher was quoted as saying “I can cure cancer in mice 100% of the time. If you can’t do that, you really shouldn’t be in this business.”
Shit. Too late for Sir Terry (whose last novel I just finished).
But I have seen too many breakthroughs become breakdowns when tested on people. Here’s hoping.
But this is not a DRUG breakthrough Hari, so maybe it might be more promising than other treatments.
Fingers crossed etc.
