New tubcat title holder! Insanely fat pussycat. Not a fake picture!

New fattest pussycat champion!

Ha ha ha! Your Jedi mind tricks will not work on me, boy!

How is it that I read “fat” and “fattest” as “fast” and “fastest” until I clicked on the link?

How in the hell can a cat get that big? Are they mainlining it with pure lard?

Poor animal.

  1. I’m not so sure that that’s a real pic.

  2. If it is, that is just wrong. How could the poor cat even walk? That’s just flat out cruel.

Give the cat some Slim Fast or something!

Check it out on the snopes boards… they’ve come to a pretty unanimous decision that it’s a fake.

What did you search for? I found two threads about fat cats, but in neither one did anyone question the authenticity of the picture.

Couldn’t find it on the Snopes board, but here’s another enormous pussy that’s definitely not fake. Is this this one better?

Snopes can kiss my enormous touchas. Ask any true cat lover/cat owner.

The spread of the fur markings along the large belly PERFECTLY match what would happen if that cat was indeed sprawled on his/her back. Furthermore, I have an obsese cat ( although, not on par with this one…) and he SITS upright, balancing on his tail, belly pouching out.

He oughta be named Buddah, but his name is Bogart instead.

I say this photo is entirely real. I’ve lived with cats my entire life ( but for two miserable years ). Everything about that thing looks spot-on. Having said that, this cat deeply needs a pussycat Nordic Trac.

Felinosuction, anyone?

Cartooniverse, who thinks Snopes is run by Doberman breeders

What a second. astro is the same person who posted Is eating a kitten immoral or just bad manners?. You see this picture of think “FOOD”? Sick.

My God!! That’s monsterous!!

I have seen a cat that fat. It escaped froman apartment when I made a delivery back in my bike courrier days. That cat was aobut 20 lbs. It didn’t look that huge until it rolled onto its back (thus spreading out quite a bit) or if you lifted its front paws so it was on two legs (more like the second picture.

I don’t think it’s a fake. My cat takes meds and the side effects have made him look like he swallowed a football. Lying o his back, he looks much larger than he in fact is.

The only reference I found on the Snopes site ishere and refers to an entirely different picture with accompanying text describing the cat as being 89 pounds and 69 inches in length. This picture was definitely proven to be faked, but Snopes mentions the existance of another cat being 47 pounds and 38 inches, with the possible existance of one being 98 pounds and 41 inches.

The cat in the picture in the OP doesn’t look that big.

I’m of the opinion that it is a real picture. It just doesn’t looked photoshoped, they way the cat’s limbs are positioned, they way she’s holding it… I just don’t buy it as a fake.

My father’s cat is grossly obese. In fact, it resembles the one shown by the link provided by astro.

So how does this happen? Sure, cats come in various sizes, but a healthy cat (i.e. well fed, and able to move around a bit, preferably outdoors) doesn’t get “fat”. Some of them are bigger than others, but I’ve never seen a cat so fat it couldn’t perform basic stuff like chasing and catching a bird.

What is extraordinary about those fat cats? It must be something. Poor nutrition combined with an indoor life in a small appartment, or something?

Actually, some cats do just get fat, although rarely to the extent of the photos and it’s not as common “in the wild” ('cause the hunt-feed cycle is too demanding.)

Some cats do have a genetic predisposition to get fat and if they are in the right environment (like with humans who allow them to free-feed and/or give them human food) they will become obese. Other health factors can be involved as well.

I have two cats. One normal one who is lithe and skinny. And fatso. Fatso is for one thing, quite big – if he was human he’d be football player material. Big bones – our vet loves his paws because they are so massive. A door-to-door salesman once asked “what is that?” because he didn’t think the cat was a “cat,” he thought it might be some kind of exotic pet. This cat has always been “portly” despite all efforts to control his weight.

However, fatso could be slim if not for three issues:

  1. He is asthmatic (faily common with cats) and hates to exercise, although we’ve got him jogging laps in the hall lately. His meds help his asthma and he really likes racing down the hall of the apartment building.

  2. He is on a medication to control both colitis and asthma – the meds make him gain weight, and man, is it hard to keep his weight respectable and healthy

  3. If he is allowed to free-feed (as in you fill the bowl and the cat eats whenever it sees fit), he will eat, and eat, and eat and eat. He also steals the little cat’s food.

A lot of cats are just fine with free-feeding and will only eat what they need (our little cat is just fine with free-feeding). But if you have a cat that seems to be a bit of a glutton – the cat should never free-feed. We set out specific, of measured amounts of food twice a day and we have to supervise the eating so he doesn’t steal the little cat’s food (annoying).

He also gets no human food. No cheese, no french fries, no leftovers!!

Despite his vet prescribed low-cal, weight reduction food, that he gets in very careful amounts, and his daily laps up and down the hall – he’s still embarassingly fat. Nothing like those photos, but he does look silly, especially with his markings.

Seeing the first pic (of the fat-cat with the green eyes) leaves me with two thoughts…

  1. How on EARTH can there be any fur left on that animal’s belly? It MUST drag the ground when it walks. (that is, if it CAN walk!)

  2. Is anyone at ALL concerned about the ribcage on that poor child?!

I think I’ve seen that photo before, possibly on the website of Evil (http://www.tubcat.com). It’s really ydepressing to see cats that fat. Have you ever noticed that in the pictures of really fat cats (I don’t mean just fat, I mean ones which are disgustingly fat like in that photo), they always have a stupid ‘There’s nobody home’ look on their face? Why is that?

Perhaps I’m just imagining it. A mental shield of some sort - Ahh, that cat’s too stupid to know it’s suffering anyway.

I had a cat that was fat. She was funny, it must have been genetic or something though because she didn’t seem to eat any more than the other cats and she wouldn’t eat anything else but the normal cat food. She was also real dense, she was heavy even though she didn’t look like it.

I also knew another really fat cat that used to live at a golf course. Now she was funny, when you walked into the pro shop she would cry at you for food. She loved attention as well. I used to call her Big Bertha as she had no name.
