New X-Men 150 (spoilers)

Okay, I don’t really read New X-Men, and haven’t really read any of Marvel’s stuff over the past few years besides some of the Ultimates line…but I glanced threw this the other day, and…what the hell was up with that ending?

Okay, so Jean suddenly comes back as the Pheonix again, and Magneto manages to kill her by making her have a heart attack or some shit? And then they cut off his head (dead…AGAIN), and finally, we see a Pheonix egg on the moon 100 years in the future or some shit. WTF?

I thought it was nice when they killed off Magneto without really making a big deal of it, and then had that great eulogy issue. Then this latest story popped up with his return, and it just looked dumb (and I’m not just talking about Toad’s new look…huh?). Cyclops blinds Magneto, which was cool, but apparently that didn’t last long…and the whole thing was just…odd. Maybe it’s because I just thumbed threw the issues instead of reading them properly, but what does the ending mean? Is the comic going to pick up 100 years in the future? Are they going to start another x-book, or is everyone in for another time travel/ressurrection story? Who read this, and what are your thoughts?

I’ve been reading the book since Grant Morrison’s run began, and the issue didn’t make much more sense to me.

Especially Magneto getting blinded-but-not-really, and the egg.

Who wrote this … uh, stuff? Is it Grant Morrison?

If so, I’m saddened.

All I can say is…someone in a comics finally has the right idea about how to deal with a supervillain!

Still…he’ll be back from the dead within a year. Two years, tops. Phoenix? About the same, maybe a little longer.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone understand exactly what Magneto did to her? I mean, she talks about how she was pretty much able to dismantl Asteroid M and recreate a little ship on the molecular level. She’s one of the strongest forces the X-Men have ever encountered. It seems to me that she would have just scoffed at Magneto’s little “attack”. So, why did it effect her so much? (aside from “stupid plot device”, which seems to be that entire story).

Magneto was in the process of building up enough magnetic charge to shift the earth. While he was searching for the sweet spot to focus the power on and pull off his creationg of planet X to kill all humanity, he was pretty much harnessing the energyy he was going to need through himself. What he did to Jean was dump it all into her system, killing her with the ‘planetary scale heart attack’. She may have Cosmic power, but she still is as mortal as anyone else.

As for what is coming up, think along the lines of Days of Future Past, it’ll reveal itself as the next arc gears up.

She will rise again.

I think the “100 years in the future” thing is Morrison’s way of saying “this is what the future of the X-men would be if some other writer wasn’t going to come in and totally change everything I did after I leave for my exclusive contract with DC”
