New [XKCD] Map of the Internet!

Spoken Language?

You know you can see a large version if you click on the map.

No, further down. Past the charred wasteland, past the Renren, past Friendster, to the left of the isle labled “Adult friend finder”.

Yes, I did. Thanks.

It is indeed Sulawesi. I have no clue why he threw it in there. Maybe he thought it was a fun shape to draw.

Ahh, now I see the one you meant. Sulawesi, indeed.

Ok, thanks.

The print is tiny, and I thought that the artist might have warped the name “Sulawesi” into something else as a pun.

I’m really surprised the Dope isn’t on there. It frightens me to think there are other fora out there which take up even more time from other people’s lives than this takes from mine.

Well really that’s pretty much the long story too.

And yet it’s the only online community in which I participate regularly.

I am so unconnected.

I was surprised to see that Adult Friend Finder has such a visible presence. I always thought that stuff like that were scams.

I laughed that /b/ made up the balls of 4chan island.

Quoth jayjay:

Ah, I see. I was looking for it in forums.

Quoth ascenray:

It’s my understanding that AFF is basically a place for prostitutes to advertise. The professional pays to put up a profile or whatever, and then the “free user” contacts her or him and negotiates from there. There probably are some scams in amongst the other places you always get pop-up ads for, though.

What should be even more frightening is those other fora tend to be more like 4chan than the Dope.

City of Heroes (CoH) made it though.

I’m amused at “Spawn Camp”.

And the River Grind that flows into WoW.

I notice Dopamine Sea lies between MMO Isle and Farmville. Wiki says:

Heh.

“Sarah Palin USA” and then right across the water “Russia”. Ha!

I’m also surprised and saddened to see no sign of the SD. :frowning:

ETA: Just discovered the “Rick Rolling Hills”. I love it!

Is Free Republic really more of an internet presence than the dope? really?

I love how on the big blog island, there’s a peninsula full of liberal blogs, and there’s a peninsula full of conservative blogs, and in between is the Bay Of Flame.

The only thing on there that I involve myself regularly with is Twitter. Everything else I do is too small to be included or, if it is there, I only do in passing on rare occasions.

And I thought I was in touch with the internet.

and /b makes up the balls.

Can anyone explain what the stuff behind the “Great Firewall” is? I know China is feisty with the internet and all but I don’t get all the references on the map behind that line and I’m a little stumped why Happy Farm is straddling it.
