New Year's Eve Playlist - 1969!

OK, it’s late in the afternoon of December 31, 1969. Everyone’s coming over to my place to spend the night listening to music and, maybe, just maybe, getting a bit high

Time to work on my playlist. The music from which outstanding albums released this year will form the “aural background” as the old year fades and the new one dawns?

How 'bout these, at least for starters ? (in no particular order)

Pinkfloyd - Ummagumma

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

Stones - Let It Bleed

Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

Beatles - Abbey Road

Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Crosby, Stills, and Nash
OK, your turn. Pick a year (preferably before 2000) and create your New Year’s Eve background music playlist. But, the albums you choose must have been released in that year (and maybe one or two from the year before but no earlier). And they must be OUTSTANDING. To keep this readable, and to compel you to really give it some thought, you’re limited to TEN (10) albums (my OP, my rules! ;))

1973:

  1. Dark Side Of The Moon
  2. Quadrophenia
  3. Montrose
  4. All American Boy
  5. Tres Hombres
  6. Live Dates
  7. Larks Tongues in Aspic
  8. Dixie Kitchen
  9. Tyranny And Mutation
  10. Tattoo

1967

Disraeli Gears - Cream
Songs of Leonard Cohen
John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
Goodbye and Hello - Tim Buckley
I Was Made to Love Her - Stevie Wonder
Mr. Fantasy - Traffic
Days of Future Passed - The Moody Blues
Strange Days - The Doors
Wildflowers - Judy Collins
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
Pleasures of the Harbor - Phil Ochs
Are You Experienced - Jimi Hendrix
Reach Out - The Four Tops
The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion - The Incredible String Band
Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane

Um, if you want me, I’ll be separating the colors in the m&ms dish and throwing my hand away. :stuck_out_tongue:

1975-1976

Hotel California - Eagles
AC/DC - High Voltage
Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton
More than a Feeling - Boston
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck
Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith

You know, this wouldn’t really work in reality, because you wouldn’t necessarily limit yourself to just the albums released the one year. One would tend to also include albums from other years past.

For example, while I would probably go with Abbey Road, and Let It Bleed, any Dylan album released up to that time would probably be a better choice than Nashville Skyline.
