New Year's Eve Superjumbo Flight over Antarctica

Story here.

Tired of the same old New Year’s Eve parties? This might be a good alternative. I recall one tourist flyover out of New Zealand some years ago on a regular jet that ended up crashing on the continent and never seen again. Hope this one turns out better than that.

The cheap seats are $999.

Nothing says “party” like being stuck on an airplane.

I seem to recall another flight like this about 10 years ago(?) from New Zealand or Australia, and the plane crashed, killing all aboard.

As sad as it was, I remember thinking, “People actually paid to simply fly over the Antarctica and then come back and land?”

As someone who doesn’t really like flying, the idea of paying to fly and not really go anywhere - just look out the window and then fly back- is beyond my realm.

That’s the one I mentioned. Was it more than 10 years ago? Maybe in the 1980s?

Found it: It was in 1979. A DC10. 257 killed.

I have to admit, though, we’ve done a similar flight around Mount Everest, out of Kathmandu. The Himalayas did look spectacular.

I hear the A380 has private suite and full sized bed now. Would that help with the “party” portion of the flight?

Maybe, but with 450 people on board it’s going to be one hell of a queue.

It’s a BIG bed.
