New York Times Disses Wilco

This New York Times article discusses a Bowery Ballroom show on April 26th (I was there, they were top-notch) and their oft-discussed new album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

I’m blinded by my own love for the group and really want to just write this guy off as a pretensious a**hole. BUT, does anyone think he has merit?

I mean, is there an excuse for lines like this?:

“Being an alternative-culture band, Wilco plays to an audience that fetishizes rejection, that loves a beautiful loser”

Any thoughts?

From the line you quoted, it sounds like he’s just a word-spinner. Besides, why care what the critics think?

For what it’s worth, here is a recent article in The New Republic that gives Wilco proper respect.
