New York

I watched the last part of New York on PBS tonight. At the end of the program they were talking about it being the future of America as for it’s ethnic diversity. But I believe according to the 2000 census it’s the second most segregated city Behind Detroit. Is this just pride in ones city or is it they just don’t know or want to believe this to be true? Or could I have heard the numbers wrong?

What’s “Second most segregated”?

Nitpicking here, but a city can be incredibly ethnically diverse and incredibly segregated at the same time. “Diverse” is not a synonym for “integrated.”

If by “segregated” you mean “people of different backgrounds often live clustered in ethnic enclaves” you would be correct. If by “segregated” you mean “people of different backgrounds do not mix in work or leisure” you would be very, very wrong.
