News About Angel's Future!

Gwen (aka Spandexia) doesn’t seem too interesting a character anymore. I mean, don’t get me wrong, she’s gorgeous and all but she doesn’t seem to have much of a story other than being “that lonely, outsider girl”.

But yeah, the show is becoming a sausage fest. Bring Faith!

I agree about Spandexia, but what other women are around who could become semi-regulars? Lilah is dead. Willow won’t be there. We need a woman, who can be billed the way Lorne was in the mix.

Faith isn’t there for the same reason there is not a Faith spin-off. She has her own pilot for FOX (which I believe has been picked up) called “Tru”.
I don’t know about Gwen. I heard that she was supposed to be Angel’s love interest but that fell through, and now there’s really nothing left for her to do.

Maybe they can introduce a completely new female character, an employee at W&H.

The cast is pretty big as it is. Adding Spike, while getting rid of Connor (yeah!) and Cordy (meh.) isn’t going to leave much free screen time. I would rather that they concentrated on ensuring that Fred, Gunn and Wesley continue to get the quality lines and only then add homegrown characters as needed.

W&H may be a source down the road.

I thought it was called, “Heroine”.

That’s not what I heard yesterday…I can’t even remember where I heard it yesterday. I’ll doublecheck.

Aha! It’s called “Tru Calling” and ED’s Character’s name is “Tru”. Unfortunately, this is just what I heard and I don’t have a concrete cite for the info. Apparently they changed the title from “Heroine” because they really wanted to distance it from ME or something.

I like Spandextra as a love interest for Gunn. She pays into his whole hunkering for superpowers. She also worked well as a foil for Angel with Cordy gone: way more chemistry there than there ever was with Cordy.

Lilah may be dead, but why should she be gone? WH can always call her back, and she would make a really interesting character, especially emotionally, for Wes. The scene where he was cutting off her head and she was speaking to him was fantastic.

I think Buffy will also be guesting on the show from time to time, keeping up the tension between Spike and Angel. I’ll have to wait an see the last two eps of Buffy find out if they really still have chemistry as show-mates.

But, something interesting re Angel’s finale: The FangGang has all taken the deals with WH… but if Spike comes to the show, he won’t have. That could make him an interesting player if WH start corrupting the rest of the gang.

The Wolfram & Hart deal is a permanent change in the show’s premise and mission, so those of you musing about the senior partners’ “evil plans” for the FG should probably cool it.

I doubt we’ll get any hint that the deal is anything other than it’s presented as being for years, if at all.

I doubt it, first of all because the show may not last “for years.” Getting this season was a pretty big coup, and shows tend not to get more popular as they age.

Of course, evil plans by the SP would be sort of cliched. But I’m not talking so much about any deliberate plot: this deal is itself will definatly make the FG very different, and on Joss’ shows, that never means that things will turn out great.

To quote erik and seanbaby, here’s how I think the seasons going to go:

“Like a trip to the moon, it’s going to start out smoothly and comfortably… Then, like a trip to the moon, it’s going to go to fucking hell. The radios will stop working, the guy who’s in charge of not dropping the box of space grenades will have a seizure, and something is loose on the ship that is like no lifeform in the lifeform database.”

Do you think that, possibly, those remaning three might be on the last season DVD set?

I hope so. It’s always fun seeing “What could have been…”

Kinda like that original pilot for Buffy with the “other” Willow.

As for the Fang Gang taking over Wolfram & Hart: I just hope it’s not too permanent. I like it better when the series doesn’t include so many other characters at the same time. Making the majority of their battles secret ones–largely kept from the rest of the world–helps make an already implausible premise a bit more plausible.

On the other hand, they did seem to pull off the state and city-wide infatuation with Jasmine pretty well. So, hopefully, it’ll work out for the next season.

Newsflash
TV Guide claims Joss is denying that Spike will join the cast. It seems very strange, given that he’s listed at the WB’s website.

He didn’t deny it, he just said they haven’t made a decision yet. But still, it gives me some hope that it won’t happen. Spike started out as a good character, but I just don’t want to know anything else about him. He is all played out.

As of last Thursday nobody was talking. JOss, James, Tim Minear. Everybody was very mum about the whole hting. As of Saturday, James was still not talking or indicating that it would happen. It wasn’t their place to spill the beans. They had to wait until the WB officially announced it.

Well, I suspect the ink must be dry on Marsters’ contract, because the WB could be in serious trouble with its advertisers if it sells ad space by representing that Marsters is coming over (which would be considered material to the buying decision given his generally broad fan appeal), and then has to recant.

Joss, et. al. may be circumspect because whatever script they’ve written for the finale may be vague on what actually happens to Spike, with the gaps to be filled in via flashback on “Angel.” I’m sure that UPN would not be all that thrilled at indirectly promoting a competitor’s show. They’re letting Boreanaz cross over for the end of “Buffy”, but arguably that works to boost interest in UPN’s program so it’s OK. Having the finale be a setup for the next season of “Angel” would probably be viewed as less cool, even though “Buffy” won’t be on.
