News anchor teams: White woman, black man.

There’s also Jim & Doreen on WRC TV-4 in DC at 6:00. I’m with Evil one, in blaming demographics, marketing, focus groups, etc. Baltimore has a 60/40 black/white ratio, if memory serves, so there will always be some black people on every newscast. I’m willing to bet the women are also chosen for mass appeal.
At least, it works for me. I watch the Fox 45 morning show, but that’s because I have an unhealthy fixation on the traffic girl.

Needless to say, I don’t watch too many of the other channels.

Maybe it’s because men are “supposed” to be tall, dark, and handsome and women are “supposed” to be fair skinned and blonde?

Anchor appeal is impossible to explain. Why do any of you “like” one anchor and “not like” another? It’s extremely unlikely you’ve ever met them in person, let alone know them well enough personally to make that decision. It’s a gut level thing. Well liked anchors get paid very well to do an easy job. Why? Because something there is something about them makes people like them, even though viewers only see them about ten minutes a day.

There is a female news achor here in DTW :Amerye Makeupson.
I spelled her name wrong.

I always thought she was white.

Nope. She is black.

Not that it matters, but when I found out I was hornswaggled.
