NEWS FLASH: Obama not Muslim!

That you’re the most full of shit person in the universe…?

Sorry but I have no idea how what you have typed relates to my post.

Really? You disagree that Americans are morons? They believe in Noah’s Ark and think Obama is a Muslim because they’re SMART?

Let me rephrase for the hyper-butt-sensitive in the crowd. MOST Americans are morons.

Listen up, twat, the point isn’t that I think most Americans, or most people in any country, are SMART. Where is this imaginary country where most of the people are smart? I know it’s so Liberal Chique to sit around and smirk about how Americans are such loooosserrrz (especially if you are American – makes you feel European!) that you can’t help yourself. I know you get insta-intellectual cred by saying “Americans are dumb!” Then everyone gets off collectively on their superiority by proclaiming everyone in the group they belong to, except for them(!), is stupid.

It’s just boring by already, and the irony stopped being amusing long time ago.

And before you even start, no, I don’t believe Obama is Muslim. No, I do not think Sarah Palin is fantastic. No, I am not a W lover or a teabagger, I don’t think Rush Limbaugh is a prophet, I don’t spend 100% of my time whining about taxes, except for the ones that I like. I just think the shtick coming from folks like you is old.

I rest my case.

Dio wasn’t saying (a great many if not most) Americans are morons because he wants to feel more European, you twit. He said it in direct response to several posts which cited recent, supposedly credible POLLS which demonstrate this to be so.

Congrats on adding a data point to the figures.

I can not believe anyone offers he spent his formative years in a Muslim Country, therefore he is a Muslim. That would mean everyone in America is a Christian since it is a Christian country. Does anyone believe that is possible? Can anyone offer such an argument without embarrassing themselves?

Seriously, that “wants to feel European” bullshit is complete fantasy on MOL’s part. I’ve never in my life had such a thought ever enter my head. Just because I lament the overwhelming stupidity of my own people doesn’t mean I want to be something else.

Franklin Graham obviously thinks so.
And, disturbingly, he is a Christian leader.

Come the fuck on. I didn’t say he did because he wants to be more European. The Europe thing was just a snarky sidebar comment. Feel free to omit that, if it makes you feel better. Now what is the point of a statement like “Americans are morons”? Is Americans’ stupidity somehow exceptional? Are people in general morons? I can say with diogenes-level certainty that if some poster from country X started a thread to gripe about politics, and lamented that 50% of his countrymen believe in Noah’s Ark, or ridiculous lies about a certain politician, he would not have come in to declare it proof that all X-ese people are morons. He *might *have said he’s concluded that people are dumb.

The latest iteration of the whisper campaign against Obama is this passive-aggressive approach:

“Why is it an issue? I don’t care if Obama is a Muslim. Let him be a Muslim… or a Buddhist or a Hindu or whatever he wants to be!”

Turns out he wants to be Clark Griswold.

Hell, Franklin Graham believes religious identity is genetically transmitted through “seed”.

Good thing he’s less influential than his old man was.

But for crying out loud, I’d so much wish for some day one of these neutered interviewers, upon hearing something like that, would say: “stop right there, Sparky, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard in my life.”

I can’t believe that either. Since no one did, it looks like we’re OK. Phew.

Let’s not get too excited. Dio’s short post was just a “snarky sidebar comment”, too. So let’s drop it.

It would probably be better to explore the methodological soundness, and the overall lessons, of national polls such as these, in different threads than this one.

I hear you – that “moron” is a bit strong. “Dumb” is perhaps better – but the exasperation such polls cause us (you, me, Dio…) is bound to elicit a bit of initial over-reaction. And, yes, there are many, many dumb people in other countries. And yes, each of us Dopers has many gaps in knowledge (but as a collective, I’m sure you’ll agree we’re pretty well-informed.)

But the “Americans” part is important here, because – as others have said in this thread – this particular dumbness causes many to act in ways contrary to the ideals they claim to espouse as Americans, with practical negative consequences beyond mere moral hypocrisy.

It was a comment about polls of AMERICANS. I was lamenting the state of AMERICANS. I’m sorry you were butthurt, but I would rather think that Americans were smarter than the rest of the world, not dumber.

I’ve been all over the world, by the way, and people are dumb all over, but Americans have a special kind of depth and smug arrogance to their dumbness.

We are talking about religious development. Try to keep up.

If we’re only talking about religious development, I’d think that first, second, third and fourth grade would be a lot more formative. I can’t remember even having any concept of what god/religion was before then.

Yes, I’m also hearing, “I don’t care if he is Muslim, but it just goes to show how sneaky and sinister he is that he’s covering it up. If he just came out and admitted it, I wouldn’t have a problem with it.”
