That’s the headline that screams from Drudge’s page. This isn’t his typical insidious para/rephrasing, though, it’s the actual headline from ABC’s Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller.
The article? Ten of its twelve short paragraphs discuss Obama’s downplaying potential connections to Islam during the campaign (even noting that there were “insane rumors suggesting he was some sort of Muslim Manchurian candidate”). In the end, it notes that “[s] ince the election, however, with the threat of the rumors at least somewhat abated, the White House has been increasingly forthcoming about the president’s roots. Especially when reaching out to the Muslim world.”
The rumors have been somewhat abated? Only somewhat?! You mean because some pissant journalists are trying to get attention by continuing to feed the trolls?
Lastly, it says that “*n his April 6 address to the Turkish Parliament, President Obama referenced how many ‘Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim majority country. I know, because I am one of them.’"
So, on a peace-making/diplomatic expedition his acknowledgement that (GASP!) he has a Muslim in his family or that he lived in a Muslim majority country (GASP!) is tantamount to the Emergence of President Obama’s Muslim Roots?
You know, at any given time in the world, millions of intellectually honest people who disagree with Obama’s policies and directions sit down to take a dump. Out of their mouths emerge worthwhile criticisms and observations worthy of discussion. Unfortunately, at the same time a million disingenuous fucks are squatting at the same time. I can’t tell what the OP is pitting, the story is discussing an actual phenomenon and seems pretty accurate. Obama downplayed his Muslim connection during the campaign because he was worried the Republicans would use it to start a bunch of smear rumors, and is now playing it up somewhat to reach out to the Muslim world so that they’ll be less likely to blow up our buildings. I don’t think it even reflects badly on Obama, he isn’t changing his story or anything, just emphasizing different parts of his past for different reasons. Most politicians (and even most non-politicians) do the same thing.
