I’m talking about comic strips that haven’t published new material in years, but still occupy space on the comics page, like Mandrake The Magician which stopped in mid story on July 6th 2013 and has been printing old stories ever since, or the Amazing Spider-Man strip which has been in rerun mode for about a year and a half now.
Any others?
For Better or for Worse
Brian
Get Fuzzy has been in reruns for years.
The Doonesbury daily strips, as well.
For Better or Worse has been in reruns since 2010. The late 70’s early 80’s stuff is terrible and sexist. It’s a weird culture shock but it sure isn’t funny.
I read them online as opposed to newspaper, but Foxtrot has been in rerun mode for the daily strip for quite a while. Seems to be the trend these days - retire the daily to reruns and just produce a new Sunday strip each week. Doonesbury is doing it as well.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer never stopped running Peanuts, so that’s 20 years now.
Granted, Peanuts reruns are still better than some of the current strips occupying space on the page.
How exactly do you rerun Doonesbury?
“The people in 2020 desperately need my hot takes on the Gulf War!”
I have heard that some of the old strips have been deliberately rewritten by Lynn Johnston, because the husband character was based on her own husband, with whom she went through a nasty divorce in the meantime.
“Get Fuzzy” is an obvious rehash because of the subject matter, and the copyright dates between the panels.
