Newspapers and sponsored weather pages

Why do some newspapers have local stations sponsoring their weather pages?

For example, the Dallas Morning News has KXAS Channel 5 (NBC) sponsoring its page (before, it had WFAA Channel 8 [ABC]). Similarly, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser has KGMB Channel 9 (CBS) and KHNL Channel 13 (NBC) sponsoring that weather report (those two stations are duopolized as Hawaii News Now); before, it had KITV-4 (ABC).

Because newspapers are a dying business and will grab most any opportunity to make money?

That’s probably why. The Greenville News here has WYFF-4 on its weather report; its weather page seems to change from issue to issue.

Well, I hope the weather page changes from issue to issue. Wouldn’t be very helpful if it didn’t.
