Here’s a thought, why don’t we just post all of the horrible possibilities in case the terrorists haven’t actually thought of ALL these ideas yet. Please people, give more details so that they know just what to do, where to go, and what to bring. (you should be sensing my sarcastic tone here!!!)
SHEESH
You people are worse than the news media. I’m dissapointed!
In the frantic days after 9/11, everybody & his brother was seeing terrorists under the bed.
So, this guy, who just happened to know the face of every major terrorist by heart, was walking along a river bank, & just happened to see an important figure in the 9/11 attack.
PHOOEY!
The guy was lying to get his name in the paper.
Terrorists attack population centers, not small town Tennessee. Not even small city Tennessee.
This reminds me of a story…
It seems that in the late 40’s, just after Stalin detonated his first atomic device, a Congressman went to a rural district he represented for a speaking engagement at a local fraternal lodge. The town had less than 2000 residents, & was the county seat.
When he got there, he was greeted by a Commitee for Public Safety, who had an elaborate plan for civil defence, including bomb shelters, tent hospitals, full-scale evacuation of the town, & a planned system of barracades to keep Russian tanks from overrunning the Courthouse.
Feeling nonplussed, he inquired why the citizens would attack here." Well", they replied, " It is the County Seat, after all."
**BlueMoonofKentucky **, we just ain’t large enough or important enough to make a spectacular splash as a target.
Now, LA or Frisco…
Yeah, let’s pretend that the terrorists blew their collective wads on 9-11 and that everything is now hunky-dory and that nothing like this will ever happen again.
Didn’t that kind of backwards thinking help cause this in the first place?
What about the White House? The Statue of Liberty? And maybe, maybe they won’t strike the US herself-maybe they’ll go after one of our allies, like Britain, or Canada?

Doesn’t that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

There were also children on at least one of those planes.
As for giving the terrorists ideas, trust me, I doubt we’re going to think up anything they did not already. I think it’s good to brainstorm the possibilities, since our government doesn’t seem to be much help in telling us what to look for.
And even if we DID give them ideas, I’m sure some government spook is monitoring this website, maybe Uncle Sam will get some more ideas what these rascals might be up to next and take security measures.
Another possibility I though of: what’s to stop some yahoos from stealing or building artillery and firing them up in the air and into a stadium? That would kind of negate the airspace restrictions, and they wouldn’t need to go through a security check to get inside.
Having been born just after WWII, the first born of 2 Army sergeants that were stationed at a facility near DC that conducted some sort of medical research I probably have a different slant on the statement "Loose lips sink ships. "
I lived with them for nearly 20 years and nothing was ever said about what was going on in that facility. Why? Because they were told not to say anything about what they had seen or heard.
They honestly believed that even the tiniest bit of information that they said might have cost lives.
Puh-leeze, honey! Like anyone here is posting classified
information that would be invaluable to terrorists. Sheesh, the drama queens in here are getting waaaay too crazy. Whatever Osama is planning for his next act will not depend on his agents here at the SDMB.
I can’t find a web link for this, but there was a local radio news report this morning about someone who went to a Los Angeles-area Post Office and tried to send several suspicious-looking large envelopes (addressed to hospitals) through the mail.
The postal worker noted that the envelopes didn’t have a return address on them, and felt cold to the touch, like them came out of a refrigerator. When she asked the man to write a return address on them, he began acting agitated. He then grabbed the envelopes and ran out. I believe authorities are on the lookout for this guy.
Thwarted terrorist attack, maybe? Or something else?
:Reaches for his lapel and begins speaking slowly and clearly:
“The weather has changed. Repeat, the weather has changed. The dinner plate is now overheated. Fledgling returning to nest, gather all eggs and disband!”
Yes, my crazy “Why-would-you-post-all-the-horrible-things-that-could-possibly-happen; Maybe-the-“bad-guys”-haven’t-thought-of-that-yet” way of thinking helped cause the 9/11 tragedy. (once again, SARCASM)
Sorry, I don’t mean to sound so arrogant, I just don’t want to take part in inspiring some sick-o.
Given that witnesses who had interactions with the terrorists said that they all had very poor command of english and that they used public Internet access, I think it highly unlikely that any of OBL’s sleeper agents are reading this.
Wow. Knee-jerk Newby bash! O the horror…
You were the one that brought up the TVA, I thought I had a resource that backed up that it is suspected that Atta himself had flown out of Dekalb-Peachtree airport and landed in Polk county on two different occasions in Feb and asked questions… Not walking a riverbank.
I Musta mistook this for the high and mighty GD forum.
Could it be something else, sure.
As you so adroitly pointed out, there were thousands of ‘reports’ right after 9/11. Did I argue that we should deploy the national guard to Ducktown? No.
Anyway.
I was pondering the risk to the power grid nationally.
Wanna cause panic? Wanna scare the bejeezus out of the US?
Cut the power.
Leave us in the dark for a while. Is that big enough a target do ya think?
Now would it be easier to attack a well-watched switchyard near a generating facility or take out a remote set of towers or sub-station? It would be easy to fly over and observe the wirelines and find likely areas.
Also with the security heightened around our cities, it would make sense to look for areas where you could cause ’ a big splash’ that we would not think to protect.
Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot! I’m just a newby, what do I know
